Lately I was reminded of a sermon I heard a while back on the Love of Christ. The
basis of the sermon was God is Love and that he loves everyone, no matter where you
are or what you have done. He never stops loving you. John 15:12, 17 in the NRSV says,
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you... I am giving
you these commands so that you may love one another. "This reminds me of a song that I
sang around the campfire as a teen in the 70's, "Share His Love." Those were good times
for sure.
It’s a simple song but holds so much truth. He loves bigger than we can comprehend.
"Share his Love" was written by composer, arranger, editor, educator, and Church Musi
cian, William Jensen(Bill) Reynolds in 1973. The song is based on John 3:16, a hymn of
evangelism and missions.
Reynolds was born on April 2, 1920, in Atlantic, Iowa. His father, George W. Reynolds,
was an evangelistic singer, and his mother, Ethel, was an accomplished pianist.
Bill studied for two years at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee and then transferred
to Missouri State University, and there he graduated with a B.A. in sociology in 1942.
Bill immediately entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as a church music
student, but with World War II in full swing, he had to interrupt his education after the
fall 1943 semester to enter the United States Maritime Service. He finally returned after
9 months to study and receive his Master of Church Music degree in the summer of 1945.
Reynolds was director of the Church Music Department at the Baptist Sunday School
Board for many years and helped with the 1975 edition of The Baptist Hymnal. Reynolds
died March 28, 2009. He left a great legacy of many hymns that are still used in worship
including, "Share his Love."
Sing with me
The love of God is broader than earth’s vast expanse,
‘Tis deeper and wider than the sea.
Love reaches out to all to bring abundant life,
For God so loved the world His only Son He gave.
Refrain:
Share His love by telling
what the Lord has done for you,
Share His love by sharing of your faith,
and show the world that Jesus Christ
is real to you ev’ry moment, ev’ry day.
All those who have trusted in God’s only Son,
And hold this precious treasure in their hearts,
Seek ways to make it known To all who need to
know
That God so loved the world His only Son He
gave.
We show the love of God each day we live,
Reveal Christ’s presence in our lives;
And how the Holy Spirit guides us day by day,
For God so loved the world His only Son He gave.

everyone.”
When asked what he is most
proud of, without hesitation
Will says, “we rolled back
the millage rate. I’m proud
of the fact that we have a
surplus. I would rather spend
my own money than taxpay
ers’ money. In short, we
haven’t had to raise taxes.”
Will is also proud of the
inmate fire department and
due to the concentration of
volunteer fire departments,
homeowner’s insurance has
gone down. A much-needed
break while we battled covid.
“My job is to serve the
people. I want our county to
be well-respected, and I’ve
tried to make a difference.
Don’t judge me by what’s
behind my name, judge me
by what I’ve done to help
our community. I want us to
continue to thrive.”
The community will have
an opportunity to meet some
of the candidates, including
Will on April 21, from 6-8
p.m. at the SCHS Audito
rium.
