"Teaching, the profession that
creates all other professions"
hung from the stage on which
Screven County High School
sponsored it's fourth annual
"signing for future educators".
Five seniors who made their
plans to attend college in the
fall were present to sign. Each
senior chose education as a ca
reer due to the encouragement
they received by teacher who
touched their lives in a profound
way.
Ms. Mary Evelyn Wells, one of
those special teachers, spoke at the ceremony. Wells was a kindergarten teacher in the Screven County School
System and two students signing were a part of her class twelve years ago. (Madison Scott and T.J. Melvin).
Wells stated that "what makes a teacher special, is that teacher that influences the lives they teach, and makes
each student feel special."
Mrs. Wynn Pollock, SCHS teacher, presented the future educators with a book entitled, "Oh, the places you
will go!" by Dr. Suess. A book that will influence the future educators and can be used to influence other students
on their path as a teacher.

CLE/
Sylvania Times'
named official
legal organ
-Joe Brady
Editor
After many false starts, and much confu
sion, Screven County’s only local newspaper
and newest source for news has been named
the official legal organ of Screven County.
Legal notices naming The Sylvania Times
as the official legal organ have run in both
The Sylvania Times and Sylvania Telephone
since the end of March.
County Attorney Hubert Reeves in the legal notice drafted by him states,
“the Sylvania Telephone has ceased operations in Screven County, has no
employees in the county, and, therefore, neither editors nor reporters and,
as a result, fails to meet the requirements to qualify as Screven County’s
legal organ.” The closing of the Sylvania Telephone’s local office left
residents with no viable way to deliver legal notices for publication.
Since The Sylvania Times is being published in Screven County, has
an office and maintains employees within the county, public officials
decided the most feasible decision was to designate The Sylvania Times
as the official legal organ.
So, what does this mean to the citizens of Screven County and the
legal community in particular? All legal notices, government display ads
and the like will once again be published locally.
Sarah Saxon will continue in her role as the legal notice contact and as
an added convenience, digital copies of legal notices may be accessed
through The Sylvania Times website at https://thesylvaniatimes.com
or through the Georgia Public Notices website at https://www.georgia-
publicnotice.com, printed copies are always available at The Sylvania
Times office at 117 N. Main Street. All of us at The Sylvania Times are
honored that you have put your trust in us and we take our responsibili
ties seriously.

for the special

Day held at Screven County Recreation Department on Friday. Athletes
with disabilities from Screven County Schools and The Screven County
TASC center participated with each athlete having a community mentor
for the day to be their athletic coach and move with them through the
events of the day. The athletic events were designed to allow the athletes
to be challenged but ultimately successful and to have fun in the process.
Games were run in the same manner as the athletic events that these spe
cial needs students see their nondisabled peers and siblings participate in
throughout the year with their parents and spectators cheering them on
from the sidelines.
The theme for VERY Special Field Day this year was Let YOUR Unique
ness Shine and Shine they did. Every athlete was awarded a ribbon in
each of nine competition events to signify how well they performed. A
new non-ribbon event, bowling, was introduced to get feedback from the
athletes regarding adding it to the official event list for next year. From
the laughter and excitement at the bowl- e Dm , rT 4i r
