An individual was attempting to enter the home. A second call to 911 advised a person with a gunshot wound was enroute to the Screven Medical Center via personal vehicle. Upon arrival, witnesses explained to deputies that an altercation between several males during a neighborhood block party resulted in a female shooter firing at an adult male. The victim was then interviewed at the local hospital where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. This incident is currently under investigation by the Screven County Sheriff’s Office. Last Thursday at approximately 6:30 p.m., dispatch received a call-in reference to an explosion and subsequent in the vicinity of the Screven County Library. It is believed that the fuse replacement created a power surge, thus resulting in the fire. The Sylvania Fire Department was on hand to extinguish the blaze in the adjacent trees and grass. Director Cason is meeting with electricians and engineers to investigate the cause of the fire and to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. “This could have been much worse than it was, we are thankful no one was injured or worse. We all want to know what happened and we will figure it out.” The Screven County Library will remain closed until further notice with the summer reading events being held at the Cail Center. During the closure, no fines will be charged for overdue books and other materials on loan from the library, (photo by Sarah Saxon) Publisher/Writer On Monday morning, June 27, at approximately 8 a.m., morning commuters traveling along the Highway 21 bypass were witnesses to a mechanical fire as a blaze engulfed a local citizen’s pickup. Ashley Youmans, driver of the vehicle, and a postal employee with the Sylvania U.S.P.S. was beginning her mail route when she noticed smoke coming from the back of her vehicle. Youmans also noticed flames coming from the engine and pulled over immediately to the median. She jumped from the vehicle with enough time to grab her phone and call for help before the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. All of Youmans’ personal effects were destroyed in the fire. Home Invasion still under investigation Sarah Saxon Reporter On June 21, 2022, at approximately 8 pm Screven County deputies were dispatched to a residence on Sand Hill Lane. Upon arrival, an armed home invasion had occurred at the residence. Three suspects, described as slender young black males, had entered the residence with pistols to rob the residents. During this encounter, shots were fired with no injuries. Additional Law enforcement officers and K-9s were brought in and the area was searched. Currently the investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Screven County Sheriff’s Office at 912-564-2013. Sheriff Kile said “I would like to thank Sylvania Police Department and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this incident. Please keep your windows and doors locked. Remain vigilant and if you see anything suspicious, call 911.” Jake Gay Staff Writer After a stint at the ampitheater, the community’s Red, White, and Boom, Independence Day celebration drew record crowds Sunday at the Screven County Recreation Department. The festivities kicked off at 5 p.m. with the presentation of our nation’s colors by the local VFW. Children enjoyed the water slides and bouncy houses. As the afternoon progressed, crowds were in awe as everyone looked to the skies while Jump Georgia Skydiving performed a patriotic display.
