The common complaint has been minors driving dangerously and causing damage to the dirt roads. “The county has had to use the motor grader to smooth out ruts because the atvs have caused such damage.” Some residents don’t realize there are stringent laws governing the classes of low speed and small vehicles such as ATVs. You must have a driver’s license, proof of insurance and the vehicle must be properly registered and follow all rules of the road if operated on a highway. The lighting requirements are the same as other motor vehicles. If an underage person is caught driving on a public road, they and their parents may be taken to juvenile court and processed. The consequences of a juvenile crime conviction are the issue that remains top-of-mind for minors charged with a juvenile crime (and their parents) is whether this mistake will have long-term repercussions on the child’s life. The consequences of a juvenile crime conviction depend largely on how the crime is tried. Most juvenile crimes in which the minor is not charged as an adult are sealed from public view. Most of these juvenile offenders will be able to petition for expungement of a criminal record when they become adults. For minors charged as adults, on the other hand, the process can be more complicated. See ATV page 7 Sarah Saxon ©©ISME Reporter Leslie Daniell, a Screven County native and a 2022 graduate of Screven County High School has been selected to paint a mural downtown on the side of the Screven Fitness and Wellness Center. Heather Reddick, co owner of the gym said, “It will be great to have a piece of art that is sure to catch both resident and visitor eyes when entering downtown.” Leslie hopes to be finished soon as she will leave in two weeks to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design, SCAD. “I want to be a graphic designer,” Leslie explains. “Everyone else is stressed out about the project I’ve taken on, but I’m okay with it.” She is the daughter of Trey and Judy Daniell and has been painting seriously since the sixth grade. “By the time I got to high school, I became very serious about painting and decided that I could make a living at this.” Heather Reddick summed up the thoughts on everyone’s mind, “We are thrilled that our very own local artist, Leslie, will be over this project.” Stop by and see Leslie’s work as it progresses. Brown swore in Eric Cooper and Daniel Torres as deputy coroners. The two will assist Ramona Stewart, coroner of Screven County. Cooper is the owner and operator of Cooper Memorial Funeral Home and is the Outside Detail Correction Officer for the Screven e - week 1 Joe Brady Editor The first week has come and gone with not much work being done. Dale Wiggins of Wiggins Construction began removing what was keeping the murals, that dated back to the time of the bank, from being seen. It looks like what has been discovered may not be salvageable. Such a beautiful piece of Screven County History lost to the ages. County Correctional Institute. “I am very excited to serve my hometown.” Torres is a deputy with the Screven County Sheriffs Office. He began his career in 2008 with Chatham County working with the EMS and law enforcement. He has been on the Screven County payroll for the past year and a half. “I am excited to begin this new phase of my career. I believe that families deserve a fair and thorough investigation into the cause and manner of a loved one’s death.” Ramona Stewart, Screven County Coroner, “with the additional deputy coroners, the residents of Screven County should have peace of mind knowing they are in good hands with the experienced additions to the coroner’s office.” Coroner Stewart said she hopes by the first of the year to have a Coroner’s Office located on Cherry Street at the former 911 dispatch office.
