Screven County Middle School students share art talents Sam Eades Publisher/Writer Students at Screven County Middle School participated in the annual Fall Art Contest on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Four local community members were on hand to judge the works of art and they were amazed at the talent showcased by SCMS students. All of the art was so good that it was a difficult to choose the winners. The top winners received tablets valued at over $100 each donated by the Community Collaborative. SCMS Principal, Mr. Caleb White stated, " I would like to give a huge thank you to Mrs. Cathy Right for her work in securing these donations. Also, a big thank you to everyone for helping make this event a success and we are looking forward to having our Spring Art Contest next Semester!" A big congratulations to the winners from The Sylvania Times. First place winner, London Nesbit stated, "I am so excited to receive the loin tablet with the pen." I am looking forward to downloading an art program and working on new drawings and possible animations with this prize. Dept holds 42nd Annual Turkey Bowl Jake Gay Reporter Tuesday night future Gamecocks from the Screven County Recreation Department suited up to take the field at Kelly Memorial Stadium for the 42nd Annual Turkey Bowl. The annual turkey bowl is the last matchups of the year between all the teams. The ages for these young athletes are 7-8 which is the mighty mites, 9-10 which is the mites and then the midgets are the 3rd and final league at 11-12. There were touchdown runs by Kayden Brannen of the Steelers coached by Chris “Stump” Torres. In that same game there was a TD ran by Waylon Brown of the Steelers and an interception by Mason Dickey of the Eagles coached by Tracy Childers. There were great passes by Max Right of the Eagles as well. Jordan Torres of the Steelers always seemed to be right where the ball was, making a few tackles. Other notable plays in this same league were a scoop and score by Savion Roberts of the Jaguars and a perfectly executed read option by Terry Lamonte Jr. The 11-12-year-olds finished the night, and the Jets were firing on all cylinders. Those boys were coached by Eskew Roberts and Logan Smith. The Jets, though normally Jets are airborne, found success by pounding the rock. With TD runs by quarterback William Roberts, RB James Roberts and Aidan Jackson. This team was well rounded, because they featured a very stout defense, the play of the game though may have been the tip drill 2-point conversion for the Jets, (photo by Jake Gay) Discover a whole new world at the library Sharon Blank Special Correspondent The holiday season is gearing up, with holiday decorating, and buying or making gifts demanding so much time from everyone! Come and escape to somewhere that you can relax and take a deep breath before going back into the fray. Whether you want a light romance, a chilling thriller, a cookbook for the holiday feasts, or a book on how to manage your stress, we’ve got it here and ready for you to check out! A great way to occupy the kids while the adults are busy is to give them something to do - like our Crafts to Go! If they would rather be with friends, then come to the library on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm for our craft times, when they can make their crafts right here in the library! Another good thing for the little ones to do here at the library is to come to our story times on Tuesdays at 3:30 pm. We will read them a wonderful story and then show them how to make a craft related to the story. The library will be closed November 24, 25, and 26 for Thanksgiving. We will reopen on Monday, November 28. Make sure that you are well-stocked on reading or viewing material for the long weekend!
