SOFTBALL PLAYERS GARNER POSTSEASON RECOGNITION
A quartet of SCHS Lady Gamecock softball players garnered postseason honors last week when a pair was named First Team All Region 3A and another pair was
named Second Team All Region 3A. Both sophomore Julia Dews and Ashley Stanley were named First Team by region coaches and sophomore Lauren McMillan and
senior Shay Sasser were named Second Team by the same group.
Stanley and Dews were the top hitters for the Region 3-A Di runners-up Lady Gamecocks. Stanley, who played virtually every position in the infield as well as catcher
during the season, led the team with a .430 average (34-79) as well as being the team leader in RBI with 21. Dews, who was voted Second Team a season ago, also played
around the softball horn, pitching some as well. She was second on the team with a .348 average (31-89) and second on the team in RBI with 19.
The senior Sasser has previously made First Team All Region 4AA in 2019 and 3A in 2021 while in 2020 she was Second Team All 3A. This season she hit .314 (22-
70) while being the primary catcher during the year. In four seasons she had a batting average of .378 (111-294) with 95 RBI. McMillan became the number one pitcher
during the season and logged 86.1 innings and a 6-6 record with an ERA of 3.32. She had 78 strikeouts.
Region and post season Regional Champion Bryan County dominated the post season honors with four First Teamers as well as the Coach of the Year in Jason
Roundtree, Player of the Year in Bekah Johnson, Pitcher of the Year in Hayden Joyner, and Offensive Player of the Year Mackenzie Mobley. Conner Miller of Claxton was
the Defensive Player of the Year.
