Things get better and better
everyday. The new Shepherd's Nook
Christian Supply is starting to shape
up too. This will give us much more
space for more product lines. Also,
as you can see, the large picture of
the town of Sylvania still exists.
(Including the original Court House
that was demolished in 1963) We are
looking forward to moving in our
new home in just a few weeks.
On November 2, at
approximately midnight, the
Sylvania Police Department
responded to a burglary call at
Screven County High School.
Upon arrival, investigators
made contact with principal
Brian Scott and assistant
superintendent Brett Warren.
Video surveillance was
reviewed by investigators at
that time.
“On the video, a male subject
can be seen walking through
the school with a shirt over
his head and a wearing a gray
backpack,” describes Police
Chief Shane Burke. “When
the suspect gets to the vending
machine near the ISS room, he
appears to pull out a tire iron
and begins to pry open the face
of the machine.”
“The male suspect is seen
removing the money along
with a few drinks, before using
a pair of pliers to try and fix
the machine face, attempting to
cover his tracks,” Chief Burke
concludes.
Approximately $600 was
missing from the machine.
On November 6, the accused
returned to the high school and
Reporter
forcibly entered several more
vending machines, taking
approximately $600 in cash
and loose change.
The suspect has been
identified as Rodney Jason Hall
of Bulloch County. According
to Bulloch County authorities,
Hall was previously arrested
for a burglary at Statesboro
High School, targeting vending
machines.
On November 1, authorities
conducted a search at
the suspect’s premises.
Investigators were able to take
several pictures of the items
the suspect had on his person
during the burglary and were
seen in the video.
After getting the vehicle
description and tag number
the suspect was pulled over
on November 15 in Bulloch
County. Hall was transported
to the Bulloch County Jail
without incident.
Hall was then extradited to
Screven County and charged
with Burglary - Forced Entry
(Non-Residence), Theft
by Taking More than $500
and Possession of Tools for
Commission of a Crime.

On Thursday, November
17, Ralph Wiley Futch was
apprehended at an address
on Jarrell Pond Road after
being on the run from the
Screven County Sheriff s
Department over a twenty-
four-hour period. Deputies
attempted to serve Futch
with several felony warrants
for burglary and possession
of methamphetamines.
Futch was observed by
law enforcement on the
Statesboro Highway on
November 16 fleeing
authorities.
A joint search by Sylvania
Police Department,
Georgia State Patrol,
Georgia Department of
Natural Resources which
also includes K9, and
the Georgia State Patrol
helicopter was unsuccessful
in apprehending Futch.
Information led authorities
to an address on Jarrell Pond
Road where Cassaundra and
Duane Deal allowed Futch
to stay in their residence
for approximately 20 hours
knowing that he was wanted
and had recently fled from
law enforcement. The Deals
allegedly transported the
suspect to a Bulloch County
family member’s residence.
Futch and Cassaundra were
arrested in Bulloch County.
Warrants for the
Deals were obtained for
Hindering Apprehension or
Punishment of a Criminal.
Duane Deal was arrested
on November 19 on this
felony warrant.
