AND NOW WE TIIANK YOU, OUR GOD, AND PRAISE YOUR GLORIOUS NAME.
Words of Encouragement
Pastor Joshua Johnson
Oak Hill Church
“One thing I’m thankful for”
l Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it.
One Sunday, some members of my church family brought me a small bottle
of hand lotion. This gift reminded me of the blessing of being part of a
church family! The bottle of hand lotion was the result of a conversation that
happened months ago. I was sharing with them about how my hands crack
and bleed every winter, from all of the handwashing, and they told me about a
specific hand lotion that has helped them. They remembered the conversation
and while they were at the store, picked up a bottle for me.
While I appreciate and will use the hand lotion, it’s not the gift that is as
special as their thoughtfulness and meeting a need that I had. Stories like
this happen almost weekly within a church family - we are called to love one
another and meet each other’s needs. I hope that you have stories like this that
you could share - of how you had a need met, or how you met someone else’s
needs.
I love my church family! Every night when we pray as a family at home, we
thank God for our church family. It is a blessing to be loved and cared for, and
to love and to care for others. I heard John MacArthur say once that he could
go anywhere in the world, find a local group of believers, and feel at home -
because they are his family. I have a stronger bond and relationship with some
of my church family than I do with biological family members. The love of
Christ and the bond of unity we have in Him is that strong!
I hope you know the blessing of being part of a local church. I hope that you
thank God every night for your church family. I hope that you are loved and
cared for, and get the opportunity to love and care for others in your church.
If you are not part of a church family, I want to encourage you to find a church
where you belong and commit to it!

The Dog That Shot a Hunter
In 2019, former
football player Matt
Branch and his friends went duck hunting. They
brought with them a cute Labrador named Tito.
The former Louisiana State University lineman
left a loaded shotgun in the back of the pickup
truck. The safety was obviously engaged, making
the weapon safe. The group had only departed
a few feet away to prepare for the start of their
hunt near Eagle Lake in Mississippi, when all of
a sudden the dog Tito suddenly decided to jump
to his feet in the back of the pickup. In doing so,
he was able to release the safety of the 12-gauge rifle and pull the trigger. The shot
went through the side of the car and hit 29-year-old Branch in the left thigh. Tito
then jumped out of the truck and went to his masters side until help could arrive.
Matt underwent several surgeries, but the damage was too severe: eventually, the
doctors had to amputate his leg. But, Matt and Tito are still best buddies to this
day. This is a good reminder not to leave us unattended in the back of the truck.
Especially with loaded guns.
