The Screven County Elections Office, including Probate Judge
Debbie Brown and Elections Supervisor Hannah Derriso, as well
as County Commissioner Edwin Lovett have found themselves
in a lawsuit. The suit has been filed by Screven County
Commissioners Allison Willis and Mike Dixon, as well as Screven
County citizens Vicki Reddick and Michael Waters. Candidate
Tyler Thompson has also joined the plaintiffs.
In court filings, the lawsuit claims that citizens were, “given the
wrong ballots” and the Elections Office knew of this and certified
the election results anyway.
Judge Debbie Brown and Hannah Derriso explained, “no one
was given the incorrect ballots, that is impossible to do. Ballots
are assigned to voters based upon how they are entered into the
voter registration database.” Derriso explains further, “while
voters could potentially be entered into the system incorrectly
and thereby be registered to vote in the incorrect district, a voter
cannot be given an incorrect ballot. If the voter questions the
ballot and believes they are supposed to vote in a local race but
doesn’t see it on the ballot, they can request a provisional ballot.”
The Elections Office is not responsible for assigning precints nor
is the office responsible for registering voters. The Registrar’s
Office, which is not named in the lawsuit, is responsible for that.
It is important to note that voting during the General Election
was no different that the Primary Elections, no complaints were
filed after the certification of the Primary results. Additionally,
the lawsuit alleges the Elections Office certified the election
despite being notified of the potential error. Georgia Election
Code 21-2-493 states, “If any error or fraud is discovered, the
superintendent shall compute and certify the votes justly,
regardless of any faudulent or erroneous returns presented to
him or her, and shall report the facts to the appropriate district
attorney for action.” In other words, the Elections Office is
required to state law to certify the election results regardless
of any interference or
problems. There is a five

Around 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 19, the Georgia State
Patrol was dispatched to a traffic accident on Halcyondale Road
which caused a pedestrian to lose his life.
Ricardos Kre Shod Roberts, age 31, was walking in the
roadway, wearing dark clothing, when a Chevrolet Tahoe driven
by a 17-year-old male from Sylvania struck him. The driver
stated, “that he was unable to see said pedestrian”.
After hitting the pedestrian, the driver of the Tahoe was struck
from behind by an 18-year-old male driving a Ford Explorer.
A witness stated that thirty minutes prior to the crash, he saw
the pedestrian walking in the middle of the road.
Roberts was then airlifted to Augusta University Medical Center
where he later died.
