“A Season for Peace”
Neighbors, I am not sure about you but often
Christmas time feels like anything but peace
on Earth. It’s the end of the year and there
is so much to accomplish. Everyone wants
Christmas to be special and we all feel the
pressure to make that happen. Plans to make,
gifts to purchase, thoughtful newspapers
articles to write. It is so easy to miss the
important part of this time of year for all the
trying to make this time of year feel special.
Sometimes a perspective reset is all we need
to get back some of the peace which seems so
scarce in a time we celebrate its abundance.
I will say I think it’s not always easy to know
exactly what the word peace is supposed to
mean. Is it a lack of fighting or maybe peace
and quiet? Can you have peace and also be
overwhelmed with the busyness of life? I think
peace is not something we can check off on a
to-do list. It’s easy to get wrapped in all of our
seasonal checklists and feel like the weight of
the world is bearing down on our shoulders. It
is hard to be peaceful with that heavy burden.
We take on a perspective that is too focused
on ourselves and what needs to be done. In a
busy, emotionally charged time of the year,
peace is in abundance but might be outside of
our perspective depending on where we are
focused. Holidays are not always the easiest.
I hope yours is peaceful and includes time
to step back and get the focus off ourselves
and whatever we think is important. I hope
instead we can reflect on our blessings, family,
and friends. Neighbors, by changing our
perspective we find ourselves healthier, happier
and more at peace.
