Collie guards
Christmas Tree
I have a friend named, Buffy. Buffy
is a really good friend. You see, she is
a 10-year-old Border Collie mix who
likes to guard her families Christmas
tree. Buffy has been doing this since she was 10 weeks old.
The family thinks that maybe she likes the lights or she
really does not want to share with their other dog, Parker,
which is a 5-year-old black lab mix.
Buffy lays and sleeps under the tree at all times during
the Christmas season. No presents can be removed from
under the tree, because she thinks they are all her gifts. The
family has an idea that she wants all the presents to herself
or maybe she doesn't want anyone to open them before
Christmas. However, she is going to guard the tree at any
cost and make her bed underneath it. Now, the funniest part
is, after Christmas, Buffy will go back to her old spoiled
self and starts using her own bed until next Christmas,
when she will start all over.
I give Buffy, big A-Paws!

Scratching
the Surface
of the Winter
Itch
Neighbors, with the winter season, warm fires, family
gatherings, and holiday fun, are welcome sessional
favorites; however, one unwelcome winter companion
is dry, itchy skin. Few things in life are as maddening as
unrelenting, itchy skin. During winter, the air tends to be
drier, both indoors and outdoors. As the humidity drops, the
skin struggles to retain moisture, resulting in dryness and
itchiness. Unfortunately, we don't have an itch-off switch,
but we do have the following tips and tricks to help us get
through this winter.
Tips and tricks for less winter itch:
Limit Hot Showers: While a hot shower may seem inviting
in the cold weather, it can strip away the skin's natural oils,
exacerbating dryness. Opt for lukewarm water and limit
shower time to preserve the skin's moisture.
Avoid Heavy Winds: Cold, blustery winds can strip
away the protective oils on the skin's surface, leaving it
susceptible to dryness and irritation. Windproof clothing
and moisturizers can act as barriers against these harsh
elements.
Be Mindful of Indoor Heating: Central heating systems
indoors can reduce humidity levels. The dry air generated
by heaters can sap moisture from the skin, leading to
winter itch. Consider using a humidifier to maintain indoor
humidity levels.
Think Twice about Soap: Some soaps and cleansers can
be harsh on the skin, especially during winter. Opt for
mild, fragrance-free cleansers to avoid stripping the skin
of essential oils.
Use Moisturizers: Invest in a good quality, thick
moisturizer to hydrate your skin. Apply it immediately
after a shower to lock in moisture.
Avoid Irritants: Choose fragrance-free and hypoallergenic
skincare products to minimize the risk of skin irritation. Be
mindful of laundry detergents and fabric softeners as well.

Post Office gets elf help
Brittney Burgest, a mail carrier with the Screven County
Post Office recently dropped off the mail at the newspaper
office. It’s hard to stay angry with the post office when the
mail carriers are dressed for the holiday festivities. Thank
