CDozier's (Doggie Daze
King eats the
Garland
Here’s a funny one. This one
Christmas a dog owner decided they
should string popcorn for the tree.
That didn’t work well. So, then they happened to see
an ad in a magazine to string cranberries and dried mini
marshmallows alternating them. In which the entire family
joined in and made a really nice string of berries and
marshmellows.
During the first night the family heard a strange noise
from downstairs. When they all got up from their beds and
checked, they found their 8-month-old German shepherd
(King) had decided to taste the fruits of their labor. After
laughing for quite a while they decided to restring them
thinking King had just pulled them off the tree. But then
, they found out he had eaten the marshmallows and left
the cranberries. However, after further investigation, he
didn't leave the cranberries on the tree, he had taken each
one off and tried each of them and then smuged them into
the carpet behind the tree. (Evidently, King did not like
cranberries) Knowing there were
some left, they went digging in
the trash can looking for dried
marshmallows, and pulled
some new cranberries from the
refrigerator. Whew, they were
very lucky, they had just made
it before he had pulled the string
and made the tree fall. That was
over 30 years ago and they still
laugh about it every Christmas.
Now, I am sure they know now,
not to put anything edible on the
tree, at least not on the bottom.

Bananas:
Potassium
and the body
Neighbors, potassium, and the body are frequent topics
of health discussions. Are we getting enough? How many
bananas should we eat? Is low potassium causing cramps?
Potassium is a tremendously helpful mineral throughout the
body. Below are some of the common ways potassium is
beneficial in everyday life.
The Importance of Potassium: Electrolyte Balance:
Potassium, a pivotal electrolyte, preserves balance within
and around cells. This equilibrium is fundamental for the
proper function of nerve and muscle cells, including the
rhythmic contraction of the heart muscle.
Blood Pressure Regulation: Functioning as a
counterbalance to sodium, potassium aids in blood
pressure regulation. Adequate potassium intake has been
associated with lower blood pressure levels, contributing to
cardiovascular health.
Fluid Balance: Instrumental in regulating fluid balance,
potassium plays a critical role in preventing dehydration
and ensuring optimal cellular function.
Muscle Contraction: Normal muscle contraction relies on
adequate potassium levels, preventing muscle cramps and
spasms and promoting overall muscular health.
Nerve Function: Essential for proper nerve function,
potassium facilitates the transmission of nerve signals
throughout the body.
Sources of Potassium: Diverse dietary sources contribute
to potassium intake, ensuring a well-rounded approach to
meeting daily requirements. Key sources include fruits like
bananas, oranges, cantaloupe, and apricots; vegetables such
as spinach, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes; legumes
like beans, lentils, and peas; dairy products including milk,
yogurt, and cheese; and nuts, seeds, and fish like almonds,
peanuts, sunflower seeds, salmon, and tuna.
Recommended Daily Intake: The recommended daily
potassium intake varies based on age, sex, and overall
health. Adults are advised to consume approximately 2,500
to 3,000 milligrams of potassium per day. It is advisable
to consult with a healthcare professional to determine
individualized dietary requirements.

The Times
On Friday, December 15, the members of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars and the American Legion gathered at the
Screven Memorial Cemetery to place wreaths on the 542
graves of veterans in the cemetery.
In total, there are 2,3 51 veterans buried in various Screven
County cemeteries. Each grave will receive a wreath thanks
to the gracious contributions from residents and businesses.
Phil Martin of the local VFW stated “We are here to
honor these veterans and their service to our country.”
