Morgan Optim Primary Care Gym & Juice: Sippin’ a Healthier 2024 Neighbors, as we enter a new year, it’s a great time to think about health and setting priorities. Sage wisdom comes in all forms, but a trifecta recipe for success continues to be mindful eating, consistent exercise, and adequate sleep. Mindful Eating: Overeating is a health problem that many of us struggle with. Moreover, the modem diet often has an overabundance of sugar and fat. Instead of a short-temi change for a few pounds, focus on balanced and mindful eating habits. Include more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains in your meals. Notably, veggies and fruits are a few hundred calories per pound of food, whereas fatty meats, cheeses, and sugary foods/drinks are thousands of calories per pound of food. Paying attention to portion sizes of high-calorie and low-calorie foods is a mindful way to approach eating in the New Year. Stay Active: Incorporate physical activity into your routine. Whether it’s a daily walk, sports, or hitting the gym, find something you enjoy and make it a habit. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week of anything that gets you moving consistently. Notably, there is such a thing as too much exercise. Pushing yourself a little most days with something consistent is generally a good idea; however. If you find yourself recovering the next day in bed, it's probably too much. Prioritize Sleep: Quality sleep is cmcial for good health. Aim for 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night. Research shows time and time again that sleep does all sorts of essential things for our bodies. Create a bedtime routine and ensure your sleep environment is comfortable and conducive to relaxation. Best wishes in the New Year, and may your small changes take you to your healthy goals. Nancy Sell Spotlights FFA’s Impact at Sylvania Rotary Meeting By Sarah Saxon, Reporter for The Times At the first Rotary meeting on the New Year, Nancy Sell, an agricultural teacher at Screven County High School, graced the Sylvania Rotary Club with her insights on the transformative role of the FFA (National Future Farmers Organization) in shaping young minds. Sell's presentation highlighted the profound impact of FFA on students from both Screven County Middle School, under the tutelage of Erica Frost, and Screven County High School, where Sell collaborates with fellow teachers Callie Smith and Zachery Weaver. While Frost guides grades 6-8 students in harnessing their talents for agricultural careers through practical animal care and greenhouse SEE ROTARY, page 3 Nancy Sell, Ag teacher at SCHS FLORIST < BEST FLOWER SHOP I N TOWN VALENTINES DAY FEB. 14,2024 On this special day of love, may your heart be full of joy, warmth, and the delightful moments you share with those who mean the most to you.
