On an old tv show called Fear Factor, contestants had to lie down in a clear coffin-like container while live snakes were poured over them. Does anyone here today want to sign up to do that? At best, snakes don’t usually represent something good and at worst, they are a terrifying fear of many. Yet in John chapter 3, Jesus compares Himself to a snake! In the Old Testament book of Numbers, God allowed deadly, venomous snakes to attack the people of Israel and many of them died. The people of Israel went to their leader Moses and asked him to pray to God to deliver them from the deadly snakes. God’s answer to Moses was very strange! God told Moses to make a bronze image of a snake, place it high on a pole, and walk through the camp of Israel with it. God said that everyone in Israel who looked at the snake on the pole would immediately be healed from the snake’s venom and their life would be saved! All a snake-bitten, dying man had to do to be healed, was to turn his eyes toward the snake on the pole. Do you know what the quickest movement in the universe is? The twinkling of an eye! The twinkling of an eye is the time it takes for your eye to focus on something. This tiny eye movement takes just one-billionth of a second. God made it so simple for the people of Israel to be saved from the snake’s venom - all that they needed to do was make one tiny eye movement that took one billionth of a second. Do you know there were some in Israel who still died from their snake bites? Why? Because it took belief in God’s promise to look at the snake. Everyone who believed, looked and lived. All who did not believe, refused to look and died. Jesus said that He would be lifted up just like the snake on the pole was. Jesus was lifted up on the cross to die for our sin. All who look at Him in faith will receive eternal life, and all who refuse to look at Him will die in their sin. Will you look at Him and be saved? It takes no effort on your part to be saved, only faith in God’s word - that He sent Jesus to die for your sin. Screven 4-H Shocks at State Horse Quiz Bowl Contest By Lauren McNure, Special Contributor for r 111 Times 2024 Georgia 4 State Horse Quiz Bowl pi \ IS extension This past weekend, 5 students from Screven County amazed everyone in attendance by placing 6th out of 15 teams at the State Horse Quiz Bowl Contest in Madison, GA. 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl is a highly compet'' which consists of Jeopardy style play with questions exclusively regarding horses. Meaning, any question under the sun that is related to horses is fair game. In order to do well, each member on the team must have a well-rounded knowledge of a variety of different topics including colors/markings, breeds, history/evolution, gaits, tack, knots, riding disciplines, intemal/extemal parasites, vaccines, diseases, vital signs, feed, anatomy, senses, and veterinary medicine to name a few. Teams prepare year- round for this event, and many have been participating together since they were in the 4th grade. You may think you know horses, but Quiz Bowl will put you to the test. Why was everyone so astonished you may ask? Screven’s team comprised of 3 fifth graders, and a sixth and seventh grader. They were one of the youngest teams in attendance, it was their first year, and they had only been with the deck stacked against them, they walked into the contest with their head held high and a positive attitude. Every team wants to win, but this group of students was also eager to leam and do their best, no matter the outcome. We are so proud of these students and the incredible dedication they showed this year! They are already looking forward and preparing for next year’s contest! We would also like to say a special thank you to our Horse Club Volunteer and Quiz Bowl Coach, Crystal Nash, for all the time and dedication she has poured into these students over the last few months! There would be no 4-H Horse Program without her! ?creven 4-H Junior Horse Quiz Bowl Team Coach: Crystal Nash Team Captain: Phallen Nash (6th Grade Homeschool) Chair 2: Tinley Clemens (5th Grade SC A) Chari 3: Darcy Durrence (5th Grade SCA) Chair 4: Ayden Nash (7th Grade Homeschool) Chair 5: Aubrey Clifton (5th Grade SCES HORSE JUDGING is up next!
