‘Church is who we are NOT where we go’
Words of Encouragement
By Joshua Johnson, Special Contributor

“Jesus is the Solid Foundation”
In Luke 6:47-49, Jesus shared a parable about two houses: Jesus said, “Everyone who
comes to me and hears my words and does them is like a man building a house, who
dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke
against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one
who hears my words and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground
without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin
of that house was great.”
The most important part of a house is its foundation. The foundation is not the most
exciting part of a house, but it is the most important part - because everything rests on
the foundation.
Jesus is the foundation and the rock that we must build our lives on. How do we make
Jesus our foundation?
Jesus said in this parable that we must come to Him and hear His words to build our
lives on the rock. Faith comes by hearing the words of Jesus. Faith means believing His
words so strongly that our lives change because of His words. The words of Jesus can be
summarized in one statement He made in Luke 9:23, “If anyone would come after me, let
him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
The life built on Jesus endures - it endures the floods of life. Verse 48 says when the
flood came. The flood comes in different ways - temptation, money problems, sickness,
cancer, loss, death - but the life built on Jesus is not ruined or destroyed by the flood.
Jesus is the Rock that the flood breaks on.
The life built on Jesus endures. The marriage built on Jesus endures. The family built
on Jesus endures. The children raised on Jesus endure. The faith placed in Jesus endures.
What are you building your house on? Hearing Jesus’s words and obeying them is
building your life on solid rock. Ignoring the words of Jesus is building your life on the
sand.

Madam C.J. Walker:
Pioneering Entrepreneur
and Trailblazer in Beauty Industry
In celebration of Black History Month, we
pay tribute to Madam C.J. Walker, a remarkable
entrepreneur and philanthropist who defied societal
norms and became a trailblazer in the beauty
industry. Bom Sarah Breedlove in 1867 to formerly
enslaved parents, Walker overcame adversity to
become the first female self-made millionaire in the
United States.
Madam C.J. Walker's journey began with her
own struggles with hair loss and scalp issues.
Determined to find a solution, she developed a line
of hair care products that catered specifically to the
needs of Black women. Her breakthrough product,
the Madam Walker's Wonderful Hair Grower,
gained immense popularity, and she established the
Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company in
1906 to produce and distribute her line of beauty
products.
Walker's entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond
business success. She played a pivotal role in
empowering Black women economically and
socially. Recognizing the importance of financial
independence, she created job opportunities for
thousands of Black women by recmiting them as sales agents for her products, providing them
with a chance to build their own businesses. Madam C.J.
Walker's legacy continues to inspire generations, not only
as a successful businesswoman but also as a philanthropist
and advocate for Black women's rights and economic
empowerment.
As we honor the legacy of Madam C.J. Walker during
(Black History Month, let us celebrate her groundbreaking
[achievements, resilience, and commitment to uplifting her
community. Her contributions to the beauty industry and her
impact on empowering Black women serve as a testament to
the enduring legacy of those who strive to make a positive
difference in the world.
