thesylvaniatimes.com The Sylvania Times Wednesday, February 14, 2024 - Page 11 Church N ‘Church is who we are NOT where we go’ Words of Encouragement By Joshua Johnson, Special Contributor for The Syi yania Times Pastor Oak Hill Baptist Cl II IRC II, Millen “Jesus is the Good Shepherd” In John 10:10-11 Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Have you ever been harassed? Being harassed means being aggressively E ressured. Maybe you’ve been arassed by your boss, or your spouse, or your children, or just one of those pushy people selling something in the center of the mall. Jesus was harassed by crowds often during His earthly ministry. His disciples even complained about it! But you know what? Jesus never felt like the people in the crowds had come to harass Him. He felt like they had come to Him because they were harassed themselves. In fact, the tmth is that Jesus came to them because He knew they were harassed. Matthew 9:36 says, “When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Jesus felt compassion for them - He was moved to the depths of His being with hurt and love for the crowds - because they were harassed, helpless, and hurting. This life harasses us. I know you’ve felt it. Maybe you feel it right now. Life pulls us from pillar to post and then our body slams us. Jesus doesn’t want you to be harassed, He wants you to find abundant life in Him. When He looks at you, He doesn’t focus on your failures and mistakes - He has compassion for you. He sees your troubles and heartache. He sees your need for a Shepherd who will lead and protect you because He loves you. Jesus, “I am the good shepherd. I lay down my life for the sheep.” Jesus said that He came to give you abundant life. Will you let Him be S our Shepherd? Will you believe in [is promise of abundant life and ask Him for it? In John 10:9 Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and go in and out and find good pasture.” Jesus is the door that we walk through to find abundant life. When we walk through that door in faith - we enter a completely new life where we belong to Him - the Good Shepherd. Church , ^ V.IIUJUI. s.
