Oliver City Council Tackles Community Issues and Initiatives By Sarah Saxon, Reporter The monthly city council meeting in Oliver convened on February 5, 2024, addressing key community matters, and fostering initiatives to enhance the town's welfare. Led by Mayor Brown, the council members, including Marvin Mock, Gary Counts, and Herman Holland were present. Among the highlights of the meeting was the approval of minutes and financial reports, signifying a commitment to transparency and accountability in municipal affairs. City Clerk Melba extended gratitude on behalf of Patsy Hollard, expressing appreciation for the council's thoughtful gesture of sending flowers during her recent illness. Police Chief Pierre Jordan provided insights into law enforcement activities, highlighting efforts towards professional development and community welfare. Chief Jordan outlined his endeavors in re-certification and educational advancement, ensuring the department remains adept at addressing evolving challenges. Mayor Brown announced plans to establish a community library in the back of city hall. The initiative received an encouraging start with book donations from Rocky Ford, inviting further contributions from residents to enrich the library's collection. In a proactive measure towards disaster preparedness, the council ratified the Mutual Aid Agreement, facilitating collaborative assistance from state and local agencies in times of crisis.
