Pierce County seizes
largest indoor drug
growing operation in
county history
With help from
the Department of
Agriculture, the Pierce
County Sherriff’s office
has seized the largest
volume of illegal drugs
in that county’s history.
There was more than
11,000 marijuana plants
worth millions of dollars
seized. Thinking it was
food manufacturing plant, the Department of Agriculture
got more than they bargained for when going in to inspect.
Officials arrested 4 Chinese nationals. The group started
the operation in 2022.

him. Cure died in October during a traffic stop on 1-95 in

toddlers as human shields

sentenced to 300 years for his role in a standoff in Burke
County.
On Nov. 16, 2022, a woman reported she’d escaped from
an apartment in Waynesboro she shared with her ex- Kevin
McCardell. He was holding the 1 year old and 2 year
children she shares with him.The children were not hurt

Pooler man airlifted to burn center after house fire
Last Tuesday the Pooler Fire Department received a call
of a house fire in a local neighborhood. Upon arrival, the
home was fully involved. While the couple made it out
safely, the husband did sustain severe bums on more than
50% of his body. He was transported by Life Flight to the
Augusta Bum Center.
Three people charged in death of Bainbridge man
Three people have been charged in the shooting death of
a man at apartments in Bainbridge, last Sunday. Oharra
Thomas, 22, was killed outside his apartment according to
GBI. Around 6 p.m. Sunday evening, Bainbridge Public
Safety formerly asked GBI to assist in the investigation.
Thus far, officers have determined, Thomas was arguing
with his girlfriend and family members. The argument
escalated and Thomas was shot by Anthony Chandler, 26,
his girlfriend’s brother. In addition to Chandler’s arrest,
authorities have arrested Angela Balogun, 44, the mother
of Thomas’ girlfriend, and Briana Chandler, 24, the sister
of Thomas’ girlfriend.
GA Bill aims to protect religious liberty
Georgia lawmakers are revisiting a nearly decade-old fight
over whether the state needs to protect religious rights
from being trampled by state and local governments in a
measure opponents say would provide a legal shield for
people and groups to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people
in the name of religion.
That religious protection bill resurfaced Thursday eight
years after lawmakers passed a different version of
the measure. Then-Gov. Nathan Deal, a Republican,
vetoed it in 2016 under pressure from Georgia's business
community, who said they feared it would hurt their ability
to attract employees and tourists.
Also Thursday, a House subcommittee advanced a
measure that would ban transgender students in public
schools from using the bathroom that meets their current
gender identity. Supporters say the measure is needed to
protect students who aren't transgender, while opponents in
sometimes tearful testimony told lawmakers the measure
would stigmatize and endanger transgender students
who are already subject to bullying. Both measures are
being pushed in an election year when all of Georgia's
lawmakers are up for reelection and Republican leaders
have become more conservative.

THE
CORNER
Pity the nation
Pity the nation whose people are sheep,
and whose shepherds mislead them.
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are
silenced,
and whose bigots haunt the airwaves.
Pity the nation that raises not its voice,
except to praise conquerors
and acclaim the bully as hero
and aims to mle the world with
force and by torture.
Pity the nation that knows no
other language but its own
and no other culture but its
own.
Pity the nation whose breath is
money
and sleeps the sleep of the too
well fed.
Pity the nation — oh, pity the
people who allow their rights
to erode
and their freedoms to be
washed away.
My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty. -Lawrence
