Protestor chains himself to
construction equipment
Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta was blocked for
several hours after a protestor locked himself to construction
equipment. The activist was protesting Atlanta’s planned
public safety training center. Police say the man used pvc
pipe and other materials to lock his arms to a construction
elevator shaft. The protestor did this around 5:30 a.m. by 8
a.m. traffic was flowing again. Police arrested 34 year old
Michael Czajkowski, charging him with criminal trespass and
obstruction.
Hall County Deputy charged by
alligator
A Hall County deputy was charged by an angry alligator last Wednesday. Now
Gainesville will put up signs to warn others. Pictures reveal the alligator to be around 8 feet
long. Deputies were at the Training Center when the deputy heard hissing and spotted the
alligator with his mouth open and it charged him. The deputy avoided injury by running up
an embankment.
Nine South Georgia gas stations busted for
gambling
A group of nine gas stations have been busted for violating Georgia’s gambling laws,
according to the GBI. The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and GBI served warrants at
nine gas stations across Columbus. Officials say the businesses were using coin operated
amusement machines where customers received cash payouts.
Clayton County looking for missing teens
LastTuesday, Clayton County law enforcement learned that Jaaen Freehoffer, 15, and
Mekhi Wortham, 16, were missing. Jaden is described as 5 feet 4 inches, 140 pounds with
brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and black shoes. He
is diagnosed with Oppositional Defiance Disorder and ADHD.
Mekhi is 5 feet 4 inches, 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen
wearing all black clothing and black shoes. He is diagnosed with Oppositional Defiance
Disorder and ADHD.
Anyone with any information on their whereabouts is asked to contact the Clayton County
Police Department at 770-477-3550.
Augusta National buys city park
Augusta National Golf Club is now the owner of land occupied by an Augusta park.
The Augusta Land Bank on Wednesday approved the sale of West Vineland Park to
Augusta National for $350,000.
Last month, the Land Bank agreed to accept the property transfer from the city for the
purpose of turning around and selling it to Augusta National.
Conviction upheld in 1995 slayings
The Georgia Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld an inmate?Burke County convictions
in the 1995 shooting deaths of his estranged wife and his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
Willie Williams Palmer was convicted of malice murder and other crimes stemming from
the slayings of Brenda Jenkins Palmer and 15-year-old Christine Jenkins.
He’s serving a sentence of life without parole at the Augusta State Medical Prison.
On appeal. Palmer alleged several errors occurred during his latest and fourth trial in
Burke County. Palmer contended that:
His Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial was violated.
The state’s loss or destruction of potential biological evidence from the crime scene
required dismissal for prosecutorial misconduct or an instruction allowing the jury to draw
an inference adverse to the state.
The trial court violated his constitutional right to present a defense by excluding evidence
of “historical bias against him on the part of law enforcement and prosecutors.”
The court erred in prohibiting him from questioning the lead Georgia Bureau of
Investigation investigator about a shooting that occurred two months after the murders to
support his theory of an alternative suspect and his argument that the investigators unfairly
focused on him as the shooter.
That the cumulative effect of the trial court’s errors deprived him of a fundamentally fair
trial.
Witch Doctor sentenced to life in prison
A Gwinnett County man who calls himself a “witch doctor” was convicted of several sex
crimes, according to Gwinnett District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson.
Hasaan Shalgheen, 45, of Duluth, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison after being
found guilty of rape, false imprisonment, theft by deception, sexual battery and battery.
Austin-Gatson said Shalgheen is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman he
charged $1,500 to perform an evil spirit healing ritual.
According to a news release sent out by Austin-Gatson, the victim met Shalgheen at his
apartment on Feb. 5, 2023, after she agreed to pay him for the “cleansing ritual.” She paid
a $200 deposit and pledged to send installment payments over a 30-day period. When the
woman entered his home, she saw a handgun sitting out on a table.
The report states that Shalgheen told her the ritual would take three hours and gave her a
white nightgown to wear. The woman reluctantly agreed to change into the nightgown, and
then Shalgheen forcibly had sex with her, according to the report.
