“The Big Sinner and the Little Sinner”
“Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But
he who is forgiven little, loves little. ” - Luke 7:47
One day after synagogue, Jesus was invited to a dinner party at Simon the Pharisee’s
house. Simon cared nothing for Jesus; he only wanted to gather evidence that the
Pharisees could use against Him. Simon did not wash Jesus's feet, anoint His head with
oil, or greet him with a kiss - which was the expected duty of the host.
A woman snuck into that dinner party that night to see Jesus. We don’t know her name,
but we do know that she was “a woman of the city, who was a sinner.” This was the
language used to describe prostitutes. This woman was a professional sex worker, and
she had come to anoint Jesus with her very expensive alabaster jar of perfume.
As Jesus reclined at the table, she noticed his dirty feet and bent down to wash them. She
was so overcome with emotion that she began to weep uncontrollably. The Greek word
used for weeping means “to rain.” As she wept, she washed His feet with her tears and
dried them with her hair, kissing His feet and pouring her perfume on them.
She had come to see Jesus because she had heard Him preach about forgiveness of sins,
she had put her faith in Jesus, and had her sins forgiven. She wanted to show Him how
much she loved Him. Simon the Pharisee couldn’t stand what was taking place! He
thought, “if Jesus knew this woman was a sinner, He wouldn’t allow her to touch Him!”
In response to Simon’s incorrect thinking, Jesus told him a parable about two debtors.
One owed 500 denarii (2 1/2 years wages) while the other owed 50 denarii (1 1/2 months
wages). Neither could pay their debt. The moneylender called them both in one day and
forgave them their debt. Jesus asked Simon which of the two loved the moneylender
more? The one with the larger debt.
Simon represents the 50 denarii debtor, and the woman represents the 500 denarii debtor.
Both were in a hopeless situation because neither could pay. However, Simon didn’t
recognize his sin while the sinful woman was very aware of her sin. The woman loved
Jesus because He forgave her large debt. Simon had no need for Jesus because he refused
to see himself as a sinner. Big sinners and little sinners both need Jesus - but sometimes
“little sinners” can’t see that they are sinners at all!

USPS
Continued from Page 7
Local residents and business
owners express mounting
frustration as they encounter
prolonged wait times for mail,
some still receiving items sent
months ago. The situation has
prompted calls for improved
customer service and
immediate action to address
the root causes of these delays.
Senator Ossoff s inquiry marks
a critical step towards resolving
the ongoing mail delivery
issues and highlighting
the need for transparency,
efficiency, and reliability
in postal services. As the
community awaits a response
from USPS leadership, the
focus remains on ensuring that
this vital public service meets
the needs of all its users.
