Lawton Arrested on Multiple Charges
Including Alleged Smuggling
-Joe Brady, Editor
Jennifer Lache Lawton, a
resident of Screven County, was
arrested on March 12, 2024,
on felony and misdemeanor
probation warrants, which had
been active since April 2023. The
arrest was made by personnel
from the Screven County
Sheriffs Office and the local
police department after receiving
information suggesting Lawton
might be hiding at 460 Beacon
Road in Screven County.
Lawton was located at the
address in question and taken
into custody without incident.
Upon her arrival at the Screven
County Jail, a search revealed that
Lawton was concealing tobacco, a
lighter, and two bags of suspected
methamphetamine on her person.
Authorities determined that she
had attempted to smuggle these
items across the guard line and
into the jail.
As a result, Lawton faces
Jennifer Lache Lawton
charges of possession of
methamphetamine and
crossing the guard line with
both methamphetamine and
tobacco. Further investigation
by the Screven County Sheriffs
Office, in collaboration with the
Statesboro Police Department,
led to Lawton being charged
with one count of Criminal
Attempt to Commit a Felony
(Possession of a firearm by
a convicted felon) by the
Statesboro Police Department
on March 15, 2024.
The coordination between
law enforcement agencies
underscores the importance
of information sharing and
collaboration in apprehending
individuals involved in
criminal activities.
Lawton is currently detained
at the Screven County
Jail pending further legal
proceedings. No additional
information regarding her case
has been released at this time.
