Sandy Springs’ annual cycling event
will be back May 5 and will offer a fa
miliar side dish.
The Global Imports Sandy Springs
Cycling Challenge will return along
with a food festival that this year will
be called the Taste of San
dy Springs.
The last Taste of San
dy Springs was held in
2009. Sandy Springs City
Councilwoman Dianne
Fries, chairwoman of San
dy Springs Challenge Inc.,
in 2012 resurrected the fes
tival under the name The
Sandy Springs Food and
Wine Classic.
Fries has since acquired
the rights to use the Taste
of Sandy Springs name.
She also found a new spon
sor for the event, Gas South
Co.
“My dream was to always have the
name Taste of Sandy Springs and anoth
er nonprofit had it,” Fries said. “Now
Fm super excited and ready to start
branding the Taste of Sandy Springs.
Now that five got the Taste of Sandy
Springs, it made sense to get a sponsor
and start branding the new sponsor and
new name at the same time.”
The Taste of Sandy
Springs will feature offer
ings from two dozen res
taurants. Attendees can
sample the fare by purchas
ing $1 tickets, with pro
ceeds benefiting the city of
Sandy Springs’ police and
fire departments.
The main course, the
cycling challenge, is part of
USA CRITS Speed Week,
a series of cycling races
around the southeastern
United States. Registration
for the races begins at 7:30
a.m. and the race starts at
9 a.m. The course will be
along Sandy Springs Circle.
