Student Profile:
► Aggie Fricke, senior
► The Lovett School
Aggie Fricke started Chinese lan
guage lessons in the seventh grade. Her
study has developed into a passion.
Last year, she won a contest for her
Chinese language skills. This summer,
she plans to visit China for four weeks
to study the language at a Chinese Uni
versity and to experience the culture of
the country’s capital, Beijing.
She plans on taking Advanced Place
ment Chinese when she returns to
Lovett in the fall, and credits her pas
sion for the language to “my wonderful
teacher, Betty Hu.”
But Aggie is known for more than
her successful mastery of a language that
notoriously proves difficult for Eng
lish speakers. Another aspect of her life
is community service. She recently re
ceived the 11th grade service award at
Lovett.
“Aggie Fricke is an amazing young
woman who makes service opportuni
ties available to so many of her peers,”
said Angela Morris-Long, one of Aggie’s
teachers.
Aggie serves as co-captain of Lovett’s
student service board. She and others
on the board tutor students in elemen
tary and middle school, spending up
to about 90 minutes a day helping the
younger students.
In addition to her work on the service
board, Aggie regularly volunteers at the
Agape Community Center, and recent
ly led the student effort for the first Vin-
ings-Smyrna Relay for Life, a walk for
teams that raised $100,000 for cancer
research and the American Cancer Soci
ety, Morris-Long said.
In March, Aggie came up with an
idea for a night where Lovett parents
could drop off their children for a night
of babysitting by students in return for
donations to the cancer charity. The pro
gram ended up making $2,000. Aggie
also designed the T-shirts for the cause.
Aggie also is a member of the Mag
nolia Club, which connects older Lovett
girls to younger ones as mentors in
school and in their personal lives.
She is also involved in many of ac
tivities outside school, including the
youth program at Peachtree Presbyteri
an Church. She helps at vacation Bible
school and with service projects.
Lovett parents and students can par
ticipate in an Atlanta service-based com
munity called Project Horizon. “I’ve
been a member of this group since sev
enth grade, but I started serving on the
committee in ninth grade,” Aggie said.
Aggie is also interested in sports. She
plays on the varsity golf team at Lovett
and plays soccer with the Tophat Soccer
Club in Buckhead.
that’s Next:
Aggie is a rising senior and will re
turn to Lovett in the fall. She is looking
at colleges she may want to apply to, but
hasn’t settled on a favorite yet.
