Atlanta Fine Homes, LLC fully supports the principles of the Fair
Housing Act and the Equal Opportunity Act. Each franchise is
independently owned and operated.
It’s our annual “Pets & Their People” is
sue. We received dozens of photo submissions
from the community, as featured on pages 25-
27.
I also heard wonderful stories from res
idents and wanted to share a
few!
Rena Ann Peck of Buck-
head, executive director of the
Georgia River Network, sub
mitted photos of her dog
named Okie.
“Okie is a July hound deer
huntress I found abandoned in
the Okefenokee Swamp Wil
derness on a Georgia River Net
work paddling trip near a pro
posed mine site we are fighting,” said Peck,
referring to a proposal from Twin Pines Min
erals LLC to mine titanium oxide along 570
acres near the national wildlife refuge. That
proposal was just dealt a major setback from
a federal agency.
As for Okie, she’s “gone from swamp to
sofa,” Peck said. “She will not go hungry
again.”
Ann Taylor of Dunwoody sent in three
pictures of her son, Austin, and their yellow
lab Rafiki. The photos spanned several years,
starting when Austin was in kindergarten,

and showing the sweet devotion he’s had for
Rafiki, which means “friend” in Swahili.
Another picture showed Austin as a teen
pushing 13-year-old Rafiki around in a cart as
the senior pup is no longer able to walk very
well. Austin, who graduated from
the Mount Vernon School, now
is off to the U.S. Naval Academy.
“Rafiki will miss him very much,”
Taylor said.
Paula Rothman of Sandy
Springs shared a photo of her
husband, Bob Tucker, and three
of their seven rescue dogs. Roth
man said Tucker was recently fea
tured in the Atlanta Jewish Times
for their work with rescue animals.
They have fostered more than 100 dogs in 10
years, including rehabbing those with serious
medical conditions. How amazing!
Becca Wexler of Dunwoody sent in a
sweet photo of 8-year-old Sophie and her
two Bernedoodles, Georgia and Tilly. “When
we adopted Georgia in October of 2019, we
were living in Boca Raton, Fla., looking to re
locate to Atlanta,” Wexler said. “We named
her ‘Georgia’ in the hopes that we could make
the move.”
She said they were able to find a home in
Dunwoody last March. “When we decided to
get a second Bernedoodle, we named her ‘Til
ly after the road Tilly Mill in hopes to really
set our roots here,” Wexler added. “Moving to
Dunwoody was hands down the best decision
for our family.”
Tami and Jeff Kushner of Sandy Springs
offered photos of their two Dobermann Pin
schers, named Sugar and Bear. “Dobies have a
fierce reputation, but it is absolutely how you
raise your pet and the environment they live
in that determines their disposition,” said Jeff.
“Our knuckleheads are spoiled rotten, sweet
babies.”
Thank you to everyone who sent in pho
tos!
