McIntosh Reserve to
open parts of the park
Memorial Day weekend
Repairs from the September flood
are still ongoing at McIntosh
Reserve Park, Whitesburg. But, park
manager Daryl Johnson said that
parts of the park will be open Friday,
May 28 for the Memorial Day
weekend. The historic park is situ
ated on the Chattahoochee River,
located just off Highway 5 in Carroll
County.

Party is Saturday, May 15
The Carroll County Democratic
Party will hold their 7th Annual
Spring Picnic on May 15 at the
Lakeshore Park Pavilion from 12:30
until 4:00 p.m.. All are invited to
join area Democrats and enjoy a
free lunch of barbecue, hot dogs and
side dishes.

County recreation director
Ben Dillard resigns

Carroll County Recreation
Director Ben Dillard resigned from
his post on May 5, county human
resources director Anne Lee said.
She said his last official day on the
job is May 31, but he is not
expected to be involved in day-to-
day operation of the department.

30-40 pounds of dynamite
found in building in Tyus

Carroll County fire fighters, sher
iffs office deputies and Georgia
Bureau of Investigation agents were
called in early on May 5 after 30 to
40 pounds of dynamite was discov
ered in a metal building on
Bowdon-Tyus Road.
Fire Chief Tracy Smith said a fire
truck was used to transport the
cache, what he called dyna-jell, to
the former county landfill on

The U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services estimates that
by 2020 12 million older Americans
will need some kind of long-term
care. Long-term care may take place
in the home, an adult day care cen
ter, or an alternate care or long-term
care facility. The great majority of
long-term care is provided at home
or in a community-based setting,
such as adult day care facilities.
People who reach age 65 will
probably face a 40 percent chance
of entering a nursing home. About
10 percent of them will stay there
five years or more. Fifty percent of
