Meth Summit to be held Oct. 212 school board
seats up for grabs

The Carroll County Meth
Coalition’s annual drug awareness
summit will be held on Oct. 21
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tabernacle
Baptist Church in Carrollton. The
event is free and the community is
invited to attend.
In its fifth year, the theme of the
summit is “Drugs and the Ripple
Effect.” Investigator Reagan
Clayton of the Carroll County
Sheriff's Office - also the chairman
of the coalition - said the event
“offers much needed and valuable
information regarding the effects of
drugs and drug activity in our com
munity, state and country.” The
focus is on education, prevention,
treatment and enforcement.

Murder suspects
to be arraigned

Farrah “Casper” Strength, one of two
Carrollton residents charged with two
counts each of murder in the slaying of a
University of West Georgia student over
the summer, is to be arraigned on October
15 at 8 a.m. at the Carroll County jail. She
will plea not guilty, according to her law-

State school superintendent
candidates squared off at UWG

At the September 14, 2010 State
Superintendent Candidates’ Forum held at
the Townsend Center on the campus of the
University of West Georgia (UWG), the
candidates, John D. Barge (Republican),
Joe Martin (Democrat), and Kisa Griffiths
Willis (Libertarian), were at least in general
agreement in regard to several of the issues
they were questioned about by a panel and
the audience, but they disagreed about a
few issues, and each made some sugges
tions or complaints unique to them.

The Carroll County Environmental
Health section of the Health Department is
working with Rolling Hills RC&D Council
to ensure water quality and proper septic
tank maintenance by offering assistance to
county residents.
“It was brought to our attention in 2007
that we had an issue with fecal coliform of
elevated levels in the Tallapoosa and the
stream segments around here,” said Susan
Pullen, program manager for the watershed
management program at Rolling Hills.
These findings were made by the
Environmental Protection Agency. (Fecal
