because backsliding is a major problem
when it comes to beating meth addition. The
first year is the toughest, he said.
“Getting past that first year is an incredible
hurdle, and they need to be praised for it,”
said Clayton. “Recovering from any addic

by month, year by year thing.”
Speakers this year include Dr. Brain

licensed psychologist who has “facilitated
almost 1,000 interventions;” and Thomas

The CMAC was formed in 2006 by “a
group of community leaders and organiza
tions” whose goal was to provide support for
the community in combating methampheta-
mine. According to the CMAC, Daniel
Jackson, president of the Carroll County
Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Carroll
Tomorrow, was approached about the issue,
and worked with the chamber’s
Environmental Projects Committee on a plan
to help. The answer was a meth summit
seminar, which was held in the summer of
2006.
For those interested in helping the CMAC
in their efforts, tax deductible donations are
welcome and may be made through the
Community Foundation of West Georgia
either online at: www.CFWG.net or by mail
at 200 Northside Drive, Carrollton, Ga.,

The Carroll Substance Abuse Coalition

Their mission is “to provide support for the
community in combating the epidemic
caused by the use, distribution and manufac
