A Fight that started at the Irish Bred Pub spilled out the front door and was spotted by a Carrollton Police Officer at nearby Plates. By the time the officer got there, the victim, 29-year-old Ian Fitchpatrick of Carrollton, had been stabbed 14 times with a short-bladed knife. His injuries were not life threatening. The suspect, Blake David Wilbanks, a 28 year- old from Covington, ran away on foot down Bradley Street, where he was apprehended. Blake was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction of an officer, and criminal trespass. The last charge arose out of the fact that he collided with and damaged a car while running away. Another fight on the square that resulted in a serious injury took place on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 2:30 a.m. Matthew Lawrence, 21, of Temple was hit one time and was seriously injured when he fell and hit his head. As a result of the blow to his head, Lawrence had blood on his brain. Arrested as a result and charged with aggregated battery was Dustin Morgan, 21, of Carrollton. Lawrence, who is now in a wheelchair, is back home trying to learn to walk and talk again. The district attorney has decided to no bill a case arising out of a 2009 fight that took place on the square because the injured man, who suffered a serious eye injury, was the one who started the fight during which he was injured. Carrollton police Captain Chris Dobbs says that plans are being made to post more officers at the square during the times when such incidents as those described above are most likely to take place. Since these incidents, the city has stepped up police coverage on the square after midnight on weekends.
