VOLUME 17 NUMBER 1
Foreclosure filings in Carroll County:
one in every 168 homes in foreclosure
by Carole Scott
According to RealtyTrac, in November
2010, one (1) in 168 housing units in Carroll
County received a foreclosure notice. This
ratio is based on the number of properties
receiving a foreclosure filing during the month
and the number of housing units in the county,
a figure provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.
For the State of Georgia as a whole, this fig
ure was 1 in 279. Georgia’s November fore
closure filings were concentrated in metropoli
tan Atlanta.
November foreclosure filings were
unevenly distributed throughout Carroll
County.

Villa Rica City council hears Carroll Tomorrow
proposal: goal of raising $3M in five years
North America and
Europe: “Coldest
December in history”
by Carole Scott
Other than an extremely unusual
December snow fall that stayed on the ground
for more than a day, Carroll County has been
spared the very unusual weather experienced
recently in many parts of the world. “Inve
stors Business Daily” reports that “according
by Prissi Sullivan
Loy Howard, CEO of Tanner Medical
Center, and Rocky Lipham, of Community
and Southern Bank, addressed the Villa Rica
City Council at their monthly meeting on
January 4, 2011 regarding a collaborative
effort with Carroll Tomorrow to raise $3 mil
lion in five years to implement a comprehen
sive plan to improve quality of life in the
Carroll County area. The efforts to achieve
this would target three areas: economic devel
opment (bringing more jobs to the area), edu
cation of the potential work force (in order to
fill those jobs), and leadership in government
relations (to create cohesion in the economic
development). The City of Villa Rica is asked
to pledge $250,000.00 over the five year span
($50,000.00) per year.
Howard explained that in his studies of suc
cessful communities, unity of the region was a
common factor. Coordinated efforts, speaking

Temple City Council approved the 2011
budget at their meeting on January 3, 2011.
The budget allows for the hiring of two police
officers, returning the department to full staff.
According to Chief of Police Tim Shaw, these
additions should reduce the overtime expense,
which was almost double the budgeted amount
for last year. Currently, the department has
eight officers—two per shift. If anyone is out
sick or on vacation, in order to cover the shift,
overtime results.
