Under the new health system policy,
each Tanner hospital will have an estab
lished “tobacco-free perimeter,” inside of
which all tobacco use will be prohibited.
The health system has had a tobacco-
free policy in place for more than 20 years
- since 1991 - but the policy was con
cerned only with smoking inside the sys
tem’s facilities.
Last year, the policy was extended to
prohibit tobacco use anywhere on the
health system’s grounds, but only for
Tanner employees. Each Tanner hospital

The Carroll County Board of Education
passed a resolution to request (of the
Georgia Legislature) a referendum for the
citizens of Carroll County to vote on the
extension of the SPLOST (Special Local
Option Sales Tax), which would continue
the addition of $0.01 tax to every dollar
spent in Carroll County.
The proceeds would fund education
facilities in Carroll County, with a portion
going to Carrollton City Schools and
Bremen City Schools, because part of their
land lies within Carroll County.
A few changes were made from the
original SPLOST proposal. Several pro
jects were moved from Tier II to Tier I,
which raised the maximum bond figure
from $77 million to $78.2 million.
According to Chief Financial Officer
Greg Denney, most SPLOST funds
(between 30% and 40%) come from
sources other than Carroll County resi
dents. Whereas, if an increase in millage
rates becomes necessary, all funding will
come from Carroll County property
owners.

LEAVING A LEGACY:
TAX-FREE INCOME FOR YOUR HEIRS
Have you made plans to pass your assets to your heirs? If you
haven’t, consider the benefits of converting your traditional
IMA to a Roth IMA. With a Roth IMA, you tan pass along your
money - tax free — to your heirs and potentially allow them
to enjoy more tax-free growth after inheritance.
There are tax considerations and other factors that deter
mine whether converting to a Roth IRA is right for you. And
changes set for 2010 will eliminate the $100,000 modified
adjusted gross income (MAGI) limit, which means anyone
can convert to a Roth IRA.
Call today to schedule an appointment to learn more.
We’ll discuss your wealth transfer goals to help deter
mine if an IRA conversion makes sense for you.
