The Carrollton Dawnbreakers Club
by Sam Gentry
The Carrollton Dawnbreakers Rotary
Club is a local service group working
tirelessly for the community under the
motto “Service above self.”
Sponsored and formed in December,
1996 by the Rotary Club of Carrollton,
the Carrollton Dawnbreakers Rotary
Club was chartered on Feb. 21, 1997.
The club began meeting at 7:30 a.m. each
Wednesday morning, initially at the Z6
building on the University of West
Georgia campus, and then at Sunset Ffills
Country Club beginning in March of
2005, where it continues to meet today.
Many charter members of the club are
former members of the Carrollton
Rotary Club, which meets weekly at
noon. The creation of the Dawnbreakers
club allowed these Rotary members with
scheduling issues an additional opportu
nity to give back to the community
through service work with the club.
The club had twenty-five initial mem
bers and has continued to grow. It cur
rently boasts 58 members. Many of the
founding members held leadership posi
tions in the Carrollton Rotary Club and
played key roles in the development of
the Dawnbreakers. The club’s member
ship now consists of business and profes
sional leaders from all over the commu
nity, many of whom hold committee
and leadership roles within the group.
The main objective of Rotary is service
- “in the community, in the workplace,
and throughout the world.” Rotarians
develop community service projects that
address many of today’s most critical
issues, such as “chi
ldren at risk, pov
erty and hunger,
the environment,
illiteracy, and vio
lence. They also
support programs
for youth, educa
tional opportunities
and international
