The Carrollton Civic Woman’s Club

The Carrollton Civic Woman’s Club
(CCWC) is part of the largest women’s
volunteer organization in the world, the
world-encompassing General Federation
of Women’s Clubs. It is also a part of the
Georgia Federation of Woman’s Clubs,
which has been well known in Georgia
for over a century as a result of its owner
ship and operation of the Tallulah Falls
School, a day and boarding college pre
paratory school in the mountains of
Northeast Georgia. This “light in the
mountains” provides a home away from
home for boys and girls in the 6th
through 12th grades.
In addition to the Tallulah Falls
School, the CCWC, which was founded
in 1968, supports the Carrollton
Cultural Arts Center; youth art; art in
education; arts and crafts competitions;
Curtis Garden operation and mainte
nance; Keep America/Carroll Beautiful;
local recycling; the Neva Loamson
Library and its Friends; local school
libraries; Literacy is for Today and
Tomorrow (LIFT); Ferst Foundation for
Childhood Literacy; Hugh O’Brian
Youth Leadership Program; Hospice;
local soup kitchen, Alzheimer’s Support
Group; local nursing homes; Tanner
Medical Center; Alice’s House; DFACS;
CASA; UNICEF; Operation Smile;
World Food Day; international students
at the University of West Georgia; local
deployed military personnel; Women’s
Emergency Shelter; Good Samaritan
House; Carroll Veteran’s Park; Ronald
McDonald House; Rape Crisis Center;
the local men’s shelter; and the Boys and
Girls Club.
In 2010, the CCWC’s 55 members
provided 18,150 volunteer hours and a
total of $58,779 of in kind donations and
$165,101 in cash. Some members worked
in the elections office and at the polls.
One member spoke at the Rape Crisis
Center regarding Hispanic women’s
safety. Another was co-chair of “A
Grand Night for CASA”. In kind dona
tions included toiletries, cell phones,
food, clothing, toys, paper products, and
luggage to the local women’s shelter.
Care packages sent to military personnel
serving in the U.S. and. in the Middle
East accounted for some of the in kind
donations.
Cash donations included $1,192.00
donated to historical sites and $2,050 to
historical societies, including the
National Trust for Historic Preservation,
Bowdon Historical Society, Friends of
Carrollton Depot, Mt Vernon Ladies,
