The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield Plantation began in
August of 1988 with 35 members. They were spon
sored by the Carrollton Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis is “a
global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing
the world one child and one community at a time,”
exemplified in the club motto: “Serving the Children of
the World.”
In order to raise money for their projects, this group
sponsors two primary fund raisers every year. The
Christmas food and money drive is held the first
Saturday in December between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
at the Main Gate and East Gate of Fairfield Plantation.
Members collect contributions from residents. The pro
ceeds are equally divided between the Carrollton
Emergency Shelter, The Carrollton Soup Kitchen, and
the Interfaith Help Services/Salvation Aryny.
The Fairfield Telephone Directory, which is in its
20th year of publication, is the second fund raiser. All
residences receive a free copy each year. The publica
tion is financed by the sale of advertising to businesses
and professionals and businesses in the area. Funds
raised by this project are returned to the community by
donations made to The Aktion Club (an organization
for handicapped people); the American Cancer Society,
“Relay for Life,” American Heart Association, Art &
Music Showcase, Bay Springs Builders’ Club, Bay
