Three Rivers Region unemployment
rises again, now at 11.6%:
Carroll County is at 12.0%

The unemployment rate in the Three
Rivers Region increased to 11.6% in June,
up 9/1 Os of a percentage point from a
revised 10.7% in May. The jobless rate in
the Three Rivers Region in June a year
ago was 11.%. Carroll County’s
unemployment rate is 12.0%, with a
reported labor force of 52,154 and 6,243
collecting unemployment.
Butts, Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Lamar,
Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Troup, and
Upson counties are in the Three Rivers
area. Douglas County is in the Atlanta
Region and Haralson County is in the
Northwest Region.
The Department of Labor state the rise
in unemployment was caused primarily by
two seasonal factors: layoffs among non
contract public school employees, such as
bus drivers and janitorial workers, and an
increase in the labor force, as students
began looking for permanent or part-time
jobs.
June marked the 47th consecutive
month Georgia has exceeded the national
unemployment rate, which is currently
9.2%, up from 9.1% in May.
The lowest area rate, at 8.0%, was
recorded in Warner Robins, while the
highest, at 12.8%, was in the Altamaha
area near Dublin. Georgia’s seasonally
adjusted unemployment rate rose to 9.9%
in June, up one-tenth of a percentage point
from a revised 9.8% in May. The state’s
jobless rate was 10% in June a year ago.
