and Foster, for that resource thanks to the
many hours we’ve spent watching Dora. I
think Swiper and Boots are smarter than
most Congressmen for that matter.)
Another characteristic of those of the
Greatest and Silent Generations is frugal
ity. It’s likely that many of them survived
and/or were greatly impacted by the Great
Depression. They were a group of hard
working people who knew the value of a
dollar and didn’t have the resources to go,
as my Mama would say, “hog wild spend
ing money.” It was much too hard to come
by, and you might need some of it
tomorrow.
While growing up in the 1950’s and
1960’s in Hulett, my parents taught me
that being frugal is not a bad thing and that
we should take care of tomorrow today.
However, one can take thriftiness to a level
much too high. My brother, Smith “Red”

priately destroy the tax stamp. My wife
just advised that there was a fine for smok
ing on the beach in Sarasota County,
Florida. If you smoke, you are really fair
game.
Even if you have a concealed carry per
mit and inadvertently innocently transport
a weapon into a forbidden area, you are
subject to arrest and becoming a criminal.
Two citizens, one male and one female,
both with carry permits, were arrested
recently at the Atlanta airport.
Also be aware, unauthorized use of the
image of Smokey the Bear could land you
in jail. So could unauthorized use of the
protected slogan “give a hoot, don’t
pollute”.
A recent Wall Street Journal article enu
merated a number of examples of people
ensnared by Federal Criminal Law, includ
ing a lobster importer who violated
Honduran law as some of the lobsters
received in a 70,000 pound shipment,
were the “wrong type” or “undersized”
and the lobsters were bulk packaged in
plastic rather than separately in boxes.
Sixty-nine months in federal prison for
“conspiracy and smuggling” for that lob
ster importer.
Would it not be nice if our political lead
ers were routinely prosecuted for willfully
lying during their political campaigns and
then for failing to implement the promises
they made to the electorate? The political
prison population would explode and we
might really be safer.
PS: Put a little in my jail account if
someone comes after me.

Wilkins, told me about the man who
rubbed the skin off his elbows sliding
under the gate to keep from wearing out
the hinges! He must have been an ancestor
of Clark Howard. It’s one thing to be fru
gal, but it’s another to be cheap! You have
to enjoy life a little and not always be
drawn up in a knot over money issues. (I
have to use these little self-talks to get
through the day.)
Rusty and I probably agree that over the
years the nature of conversations has
changed. Most people are not as open and
forthcoming as they once were for some
reason. I suppose they’re too busy and pre
occupied to take the time to share their
thoughts.
In today’s world, that is very under
standable. The objective is to get in and get
out as quickly as possible and move on to
the next item on the punch list. Shameful,
isn’t it?
Well, now that I’ve had my “treatment”,
I can go forward at least until I need
another reality check. One just can’t tell
when that’ll happen in the environment in
which we live today. We surely do have
an unpredictable and sometimes
