Dyer Road
Convenience Center upgrade
The convenience center on Dyer Road
is be closed for a number of weeks to
allow for a nearly one-acre expansion.
While the center is closed, a makeshift
center will be erected across the road,
though it will be limited to only accepting
household trash and recyclables.
Five months ago, the Carroll County
Board of Commissioners unanimously
voted to purchase a .91 acre tract
immediately adjacent to the existing Dyer
Road convenience center to allow for the
future expansion, and in the coming week
or so, that expansion project will officially
begin.
It’s yet to be seen how long the
expansion will take, as it is very
contingent upon weather conditions during
the construction process.
Tanner’s free PAD screening
More than 12 million Americans live
with a serious medical condition that puts
them at risk for a heart attack, stroke, leg
amputation and possibly even death.
Peripheral artery disease, or PAD,
occurs when an artery in the legs or arms
becomes blocked, preventing the artery
from delivering oxygen-rich blood to the
muscles and other tissues in the affected
limb.
On July 30, Tanner Health System
offered a free screening for PAD in Villa
Rica, helping people who have the disease
but who have not yet been diagnosed

New district lines
for City of Carrollton
The Carrollton City Council gathered
for their regular meeting at 6 p.m. on
Monday, July 11, at the Court/Council
Chambers at the Public Safety Complex
located at 115 West Center Street.
Among the items on the agenda was
“Ordinance 01-2011: Voter Redistricting.”
Redistricting is a procedural process that
takes place every ten years as part of a
normal governmental cycle, after census
information is compiled and released. In
Carrollton, City Manager Casey Coleman
said one Ward grew more than the others,
so lines needed to be moved to
compensate for those differences and to
even out the number of citizens per ward.
The mayor and council voted to approve
the new lines, but the existing districts will
continue to remain as they are until
approval from the Department of Justice
and the Georgia General Assembly,
Coleman said. This is a process that could
take several months.
