Wednesday, March 26, 2014,
an electrical fire began an the
top floor of the Groover-Smith
building in a corner of
Adamson Square, downtown
Carrollton. Fire destroyed
several businesses on the top
floor, the entire roof and parts
of the floor. Water used to put
out the fire cascaded through
the holes in the floor destroy
ing the La Trattoria restaurant
and its contents located
beneath. Carrollton City fire
fighters were able to contain
the large fire and extinguish it
rather quickly before it spread
to any other building on the
square. No one was injured. A

No need for new county school
construction for five years

enrollment and demographics
report to Carroll County Board of
Education at the board work ses
sion on March 17, 2014.
According to the report, there
will be no need for the construc
tion of new schools in the imme-

Carroll County voters will have
the opportunity to cast their vote for
their candidates for three offices in
the Primary to be held Tuesday,
May 20, 2014. Voters may cast
their vote that day or during early
voting dates which includes
Saturday. Go to Carroll County’s
website at www.carrollcountyga.com;
then “Government”; then “Board of
Elections”; then “Calendar” for
dates, times, location.
Up for grabs are Carroll County
Commission seats for Districts 2
and 4, and State Senate seat for
District 30.

County school board votes to
extend custodial contract;
one board member objects
citing lack of cleaning quality

City of Carrollton makes
repairs to chairlift in
Stallings building

City of Carrollton’s
Stallings Center occupies
Carrollton High School’s
former building. Built in
1921, it was converted in
1986 into a community
center which later, in
2009, was named for past
Carrollton mayor Tracy
Stallings. Recently, the
city arranged for the
repair of a chairlift mak
ing all floors accessible to
people who cannot climb
and descent steps.
