Villa Rica council votes to
increase water rates (5%) 4-1
Mayor Collins quickly vetoes the rate hike
on the “fishy, dirty, smelly water”

Water and its quality was a main
topic of conversation and dissension
at Villa Rica City Council Monday,
December 1,2015.
The City of Villa Rica purchases
water from Carroll County Water
Authority. The Authority’s water
purchase rate to the city will
increase 8% on bills received after
December 1st. City Manager David
Milliron and staff recommended that
this rate be passed on to the city’s
water customers. Customers pay
$12 for the first 1,000 gallons used,
except for seniors, who pay $5.
“We don’t buy all our water from
the water authority,” stated Mayor J.
Collins. “So, we’re just going to
increase everybody 8%?”
“You’re already losing a phe
nomenal amount of money,” stated
Milliron. “In order to catch up to

Runoff results: Bracknell wins
Temple Ward 5; Hollingsworth
wins mayoral seat in Carrollton

The results are in for the
December 1 st General
Municipal Election Run
off. Eight percent (8%) of
voters participated.
In Carrollton, Walt
Hollingsworth defeated
Mike Patterson for mayor.
Of the 1,878 votes cast in
the election, Hollingsworth
received 1009, or 53.73%
of the vote, while Patterson
garnered 869, or 46.27%.
In the Temple Ward 5
runoff, Richard Bracknell
won another term in the
seat against Gerald Powell.
Bracknell received 182
votes, or 54.33%, and
Powell received 153 votes,
or 45.67%.
