Bill Chappell seeks re-election as
commission chairman in race*
against incumbent Marty Smith
Job will go to winner of May 24th election

Former Carroll County
Commission Chairman Bill
Chappell is seeking re-election to the
position against incumbent Marty
Smith. The election for this position
will be decided Tuesday, May 24th,
as both candidates are Republicans.
Early voting begins May 2nd.
As a concerned citizen and tax
payer, Chappell saw a great need for
improvement in the handling of the
county government’s business and
decided to facilitate
the necessary
changes when he
sought the chairman
ship in 2007. He
won that year to fill
the remaining term
of Robert Barr who
had resigned.
Chappell won again
in 2008 for a full term that ended
2012 when he lost the election to

has 3 contested districts

The Carroll County Board
of Education has three seats up
for grabs in the election to be
decided on Tuesday, May 24,
2016. Early voting begins
May 2.
Former school board repre
sentative Bernice Brooks and
incumbent Rob Cleveland are
competing for the District 1
seat. Cleveland took office in
January, 2013 and has decided
to seek re-election. He has
taught and coached in Carroll
County for 17 years before
serving on the board for the
last four years.

Thurs., March 24 to show their support
of Sheriff Terry Langley and his team of
“Souper” Hero officers at the 14th
Annual Soup Tasting held at the CarroU
County Ag Center. Reagan Burchfield
led the Pledge of Allegiance and sang f
Amazing Grace in honor of last year's
fallen heroes. The crowd socialized over
hot chiil, vegetable and French onion
soups, while listening to the Central
High School Quartet, Heaven’s Echoes,
and Jerry Rogers.
Langley addressed the gathering and
asked for their support in the upcoming
election May 24th which would allow
him to “continue to serve the citizens of

Keith Hancock announces
run for county coroner;
has two opponents
Keith Hancock is seeking
the office of Carroll County
coroner in the May 24th
Republican primary election.
Hancock faces two opponents:
Doyle Akins and Keith files.
This position will be decided
with the May 24th election as
all three candidates qualified
as Republican and there are no
Democrats in this race. Early
voting begins May 2nd.
Hancock, age 37, is a native
of Carroll County, Georgia. He
graduated
from Central
High School
in 1997 and
holds a
Bachelors
degree in
religious
studies from
Hancock
Luther Rice
Seminary and an Associates
degree in mortuary science
from Gupton Jones College.

County Commission District 5
has two contenders: Dale
Williams and Lee Powers

Dale Williams and Lee Powers are in a race
for the District 5 seat on Carroll County Board
of Commissioners.
Kevin Jackson is the current District 5 repre
sentative but did not qualify to run again. His
term ends December 31, 2016. The winner of
this race will be sworn into office early January, Williams
