Trent North to step down
Douglas County Board of Education hires North
as superintendent; he began new job June 1st

On May 30, 2017, Douglas
County Board of Education named
Trent North, middle school principal
of Carrollton City Schools, as their
new superintendent. The vote at the
special called meeting was unani
mous. He began his new position on
June 1st.
Not only will North be leaving
the city school system, he will step
down as a Carroll County District
Commissioner, an elected post he has held for six four-
year terms, in order “to serve the citizens of Douglas

have read: 2014 $112.13, 2015
$223.89, and 2016 $110.04, totaling
$446.06 paid in back taxes.
StarNews reported that McDougal
paid $3,603.31 in back taxes.

At their regular meeting held
Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in the historic
superior courtroom of the old
courthouse, the Carroll County Board
of Commissioners and chairman
unanimously approved and adopted a
budget for the upcoming fiscal year
2017-2018 that runs July 1, 2017 to
June 30,2018.
Commission chairman is Marty
Smith, and the six district
commissioners (in district order, 1 to 6)
are Trent North, Vickie Anderson,
Tommy Lee, Michelle Morgan, Lee
Powers, and George Chambers. All
were present. It is the responsibility of
the commission chairman - the
Commissioner of Roads and Revenue -
to present a balanced budget each year
to the commission board for adoption
consideration prior to July 1st.
Highlights of the 2017-2018 county
budget that totals $49,281,700 include
the following:
- a Zero-Based Budget method was
not employed; the current budget was
used to make additions or deletions for
the new budget

Two qualify to run for Temple City Council:
seat vacant due to William Simmons’death

Two men have qualified to run for
the Temple City Council seat that
became vacant on the death of
Williams Simmons. Simmons died
April 11, 2017. The election to fill the
seat will be held Tueday, June 20th.
Thomas J. Wallace and Richard J.
McIntosh have qualified to run for
William Simmons’ Ward 4 seat. All
registered voters in the city of Temple
are eligible to vote regardless in which
ward they live.
Wallace has lived in Temple 16 years
and has been on the Zoning and
Planning Committee for seven months.
“Temple is a good location for new
businesses,” he stated. “This is an
excellent place to raise a family; we
have excellent schools and facilities.”

Former longtime Carrollton Cultural
Arts Center director files suit against
city and three city employees

employees have been named in a law
suit by a former and longtime
Carrollton Cultural Arts Center
(CCAC) director, citing claims pursu
ant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and the 4th and
14th Amendments of the U.S.
Constitution.
