Incumbents and the
unopposed sweep local
municipal elections

The local results for the November 7, 2017 Georgia
Municipal and Special Election are in, and it was a
night of incumbent victories. As of our press deadline,
the results were labeled as ‘unofficial and incomplete.’
Gerald Byrd won another term as the Ward 1 council-
member in the city of Carrollton, beating out his oppo
nent, Jacqulene Elaine. Byrd received 170 votes, or
78.70 percent. Bridges received 46 votes, or 21.30 per
cent. Byrd said he is looking toward future progress and

Carroll County’s Jim Beck announces
for State Insurance Commissioner
Former State Deputy Insurance Commissioner, Beck has also authored
the book “Standing Up: A Georgia Consumer’s Guide to Insurance”

Jim Beck, former Georgia Deputy Insurance and Safety Fire
Commissioner, has declared that he is running for Georgia
Insurance Commissioner. Current Insurance Commissioner Ralph
Hudgins has stated that he will not seek re-election for a third term
and will step down at the end of his term in 2018.
Beck, of Carroll County, has been a successful business leader
with 30 years in the insurance business and feels he has a lot to
offer the state with his experience in the field.
“I can hit the ground running,” he stated. Beck has written a
