Long-time Villa Rica City Council Member
Verland Best resigned his position after a com
plaint was filed regarding a conversation he had
had with Lenise J. Lyons, Villa Rica City

Best told StarNews that he had quoted what a

"free Christina Boyer”
World-renowned photographer
back in the U.S. continuing his
goal to exonerate Carroll County
woman serving life for murder
by Sam Gentry
World-renowned photographer Jan
Banning is back in Carroll County from
The Netherlands continuing his quest to
help free Christina Boyer from prison.
Banning believes Boyer, who has been in
Pulaski Women’s Prison in Hawkinsville,
Georgia for the death of her three-year-old
daughter, Amber, for 26 years, was
undoubtedly wrongfully convicted.
As stated in the June 2018 print edition
of StarNews (visit stamewsgaonline.com
for complete story), Banning - who has
published numerous photography books
around the world - was working on a new
series about prisons when he discovered
StarNews (then The Carroll Star News)
January 2008 print story about Christina
“Tina” Resch Boyer that had been posted
online.
Because Banning had worked in
Geoigia on a book called “Down and Out
in the South,” he was able to use his prior
contacts and resources to make the
Pulaski Prison photo shoot happen. He
was personally given permission by then
commissioner of the Georgia Department
