www.starnewsgaonline.com StarNews April 14, 2019 Page 3 n Promises Made—Promises Kept My name is Lee Powers and I have been privileged to serve as Carroll County’s District 5 Commissioner since 2016.1 have been married to Sandy Powers for over 28 years and have two amazing daughters, Emily (24) and Kendall (22). They are second to Jesus Christ in my life. With their blessing, I have decided to run for the open Chair this June, and I respectfully ask for your vote. First and foremost in Carroll County, I am dedicated to our County Employees and First Responders. I believe that they are our #1 asset and I am committed to making sure they receive the pay and raises they need and deserve. I promised to do my best to accomplish three main goals during our previous campaign: 1) Take care of (secure raises for) our County Employees and First Responders—DONE 2) Keep Carroll County rural and protect our farmland and groundwater by discouraging high density development on undersized lots (the Health Department passed a requirement I proposed which increased the amount of land needed to build any home to include an additional 14 acre dedicated to the septic system)—DONE 3) Improve emergency response times by adding a sixth ambulance to the south side of the county—DONE OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Upon entering office, one firehouse was under construction and another one proposed. The one under construction is now finished and the one proposed is 99% finished which lowers the ISO rating and fire insurance rates for everyone. I was also instrumental in securing funding for the AG Center and helping the renovations get completed, the preliminary demolition and reconstruction of the Clem Recreation Center, a multi use pavilion in the City of Roopville and helping demolish a building by City Hall, adding two new restroom buildings at McIntosh Park plus renovating two others and now helping Roopville build some restrooms behind the pavilion. As Chairman I promise to do my best to: 1) Protect (and be a primary advocate for) our County Employees and First Responders who are main assets. 2) Maintain healthy low-density growth. Encourage the right kind of growth that will pay for itself and ensure we bring businesses and companies (and the revenue that comes with them) into Carroll County while maintaining our unique lifestyle and atmosphere by protecting ourfarms and rural way of life. 3) Maintain the training of employees and retain them. Proper growth that pays for itself will allow us to do so. 4) Work closely with each City and maintain productive relationships with City Leaders. As Chair, I will not only be representing the 5 th District, but the entire county. Different parts of the county require different things and I will be a uniting force that brings people together to make sure the county runs efficiently and growth occurs in the right parts of the county.
