GD0T road projects include
improvements for cities of
Temple and Villa Rica, 1-20

Senate Majority Leader Mike Dugan (R -
Carrollton) announced updates on several
Georgia Department of Transportation
(GDOT) projects occurring in District 30.
The first project addresses work on 1-20
that began on September 12, 2016, and will
be completed by July 2020. This two-phase
project is complex with the work addressing
removal of concrete, grading of subgrade,
placement of recycled graded aggregate
base, and asphalt and concrete paving. In
order to address additional necessary work,
the project’s original completion date of
October 31, 2019, was pushed to July 2020
so that additional safety enhancements such
as two-foot shoulder widening, accident

Police Chief and Brigadier General John
King to serve as Georgia’s Insurance
Commissioner and Safety Fire
Commissioner. King is the first Hispanic
Insurance Commissioner and statewide con

At the Villa Rica City council meeting
held June 25,2019, Chief Financial Officer
Sarah Hefty presented the report for the
month of May, showing the city in a good
financial state. The total for cash and CDs
was $14,744,206 as opposed to
$10,801,782 in May 2018. The General
Fund has a balance of $6,777,229, while
the water/sewer fund reflects a balance of

Special Election Run-Off July 16th
County voters to choose chairman; two district commissioners

Candidates Michelle Morgan and John
Wilson faced off in a forum sponsored by
the Carroll County League of Women
Voters at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center
on June 26. These two candidates, who are
running for Chairman of Carroll County
Board of Commissioners, received the most
votes—although neither obtained 50% plus
one vote in the Special Election June 18.
Approximately 65 attendees were present.
The runoff is Tuesday, July 16th. Registered
voters who did not vote in the original elec
tion MAY VOTE IN THE RUNOFF.

taught, math whiz headed
to ldndergarten in August
“I can do Algebra now”

Five-year-old Jonas Pascal of Carrollton is an
ordinary kid.. .for the most part. When he’s not playing
games, watching videos, or spending time with friends,
Jonas enjoys algebra. Yes, algebra.
Jonas, the son of Jonathan and Georgia Pascal of
Carrollton, began showing exceptional abilities with
numbers early in his life. His mom said he began doing
the ‘easy stuff” when he was three and the ‘harder stuff”
when he was four.
Jonas said he doesn’t remember exactly when he saw
his first math problem and understood it, but he does
recall that his sister, Nevaeh Brown, was with him. She
is perhaps his greatest supporter and mathematics
assistant. Also an outlier when it comes to intellect,
