Trice Speaks
to Kiwanis

Brian Trice, son of Ed and Francis Trice, spoke
to members of the Thomciston Kiwanis Club last
week about his work at Robins Air Force Base.
Trice is employed by Northrop-Grumman, the
largest defense contractor with the Air Force,
and maintains software on the Bi bomber. The
bombers are tested, but not stationed at
Warner Robins AFB, according to Trice. With
an annual operating budget of $1.78 billion,
Robins is one of three Air Force logistics centers
in the country, with 7,400 civilian employees
and an annual payroll of $700 million.

Chief Web Recognized
for Saving Life
Meriwether County Fire Rescue recently rec
ognized Woodbury Police Chief Smart Web,
formerly ofThomaston,for saving a life by
rescuing a female in a house fire. Upon arrival
at the scene, located on Woody bury’s Drome
dary Street, Web arrived two minutes prior to
fire apparatus. The victim’s daughter told him
that her mother was inside and Web opened
the front door, located the woman, and car
ried her outside. Shortly after, the house be
came engulfed inflames.

suing seven-day period.
Delivery of a new clock tower, or
cupola, is planned for the week of
June 7, with installation slated to
begin June 9, Tinsley added. Attach
ment of the cupola, which is being
fabricated off site to historical speci
fications matching the previous
tower, should be completed 14 days
from work beginning.
Tinsley told commissioners that
proposals are being submitted for
additional exterior and interior work
needed to wrap up the courthouse
improvement project.
In other business, Tinsley said
Upson County is slated to receive
$5.1 million through the American
Rescue Plan Act, which is aimed at
offsetting adverse effects resulting
from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among allowed uses for the funds,
which are governed by the U.S. De
partment of Treasury, are water,
sewer, and broadband needs, accord
ing to Tinsley.
Commissioners are expected to
discuss use of “rescue funds” during
the county’s April work session.
Tinsley told commissioners that
Upson ranks second among all
counties in the state in vaccinations
per capita, behind only one county
which has a population of 6,000.
Upson is approaching 90 percent of
its senior residents being vaccinated,
he added.
“The five counties with the high
est percentage of their population
fully vaccinated in Georgia as of
March 23 are Upson County, Towns
County, Thomas County, Glascock
County, and Miller County,” accord
ing to online sources.
