Memorial Day,
Continued from Front
U.S. Armed Forces - the
Army, the Navy, the Air
Force, the Marines, and the
U.S. Coast Guard.
Caldwell spoke about
the origination of Memorial
Day and cited the number of
those who have been killed
in action, a total of nearly
1.4 million since the coun
try’s inception.
After Caldwell’s words,
Rev. Turner returned to the
podium and gave an emo
tional speech on what Taps
means to him, and Chris
Awtrey performed Taps on
trumpet.
In Yatesville, a humble,
but moving ceremony took
place with Cecil Moncrief
reading a list of 146 soldiers
from the Yatesville area who
had served. All the names
are listed on crosses placed
at the corner of College
Street and Yatesville High
way.
