2A I DAWSON COUNTY NEWS I dawsonnews.com Wednesday, March 6,2019 Authorities retrieve submerged truck from Thompson Creek Park By Jessica Taylor jtaylor@dawsonnews.com Members of the Dawson County Emergency Services, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Hall County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and officers from the Department of Natural Resources responded to a sub merged vehicle in Lake Lanier Leb. 26. Dawson County Emergency Services received a 911 call at 11:04 a.m. and responded to a vehicle submerged in Lake Lanier at Thompson Creek Park in Dawsonville. Emergency personnel removed a 2009 silver Toyota Tacoma from the lake. According to a press release from Dawson County Public Relations Specialist Laura Lulcher there are no known vic tims at this time and that the owner of the vehicle’s name is being withheld. Officials with the Department of Natural Resources per formed side sonar scans with negative findings. Hall County’s dive team also per formed an area grid search with no findings. The Dawson County fire department conducted shore line sweeps of the area once a day for seven days. The incident is presently being investigated by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, and the cause of the incident is undetermined pend ing further investigation. Joshua Ian Smith, 25, Dawsonville: Charges pending. OBITUARIES Peggy Sue Blackwell Peggy Sue Word Blackwell, 52, died March 3, 2019. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Chad Blackwell of Dawsonville; son, Seth Word of Gainesville; par ents, Mike and Debbie Fowler of Gainesville; sisters, Janice (Flynn) Vaughan of Gainesville, Kate (Seth) Campbell of Dawsonville; various other relatives also sur vive. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements. Dawson County News March 6, 2019 Michael Thomas Johnson Michael was born in 1956, to the late Tommie and Elizabeth Johnson. He worked for Jeff Gooch Trucking. Survivors include his children, Brittany (Barrett) Devault, Ashley (Daniel) Parr, and Brian (Brittany) Cross; long time partner, Donna Cross; siblings, Gregory (Tammy) Johnson, Linda (Dwight) Tatum, Debbie Bearden and Gail Evans; grandchildren, Bennett Devault, Jaidyn Parr, Izzy Parr, Emery Parr, Axel Cross, Riley Cross and Dakota Cross; various other relatives also sur vive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Austin Houston and Dwight Tatum officiating. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Feb. 28 at the funeral home. Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements Dawson County News March 6, 2019 Ronald (Ron) Eugene Storey Ronald (Ron) Eugene Storey of Griffin died Feb. 27, 2019. Ron was born on Dec. 25, 1944 in Griffin to Charles Johnson Storey, Jr. and Cathon Pitts Storey. After attending Griffin High School, he entered the U.S. Army where he served in the First Calvary Division as a Forward Observer in Korea. He then returned home to begin his 34-year career as an aircraft mechanic and supervisor for Delta Air Lines. He married Deborah Tatum in 1967 and they remained together for the rest of his life. They had two children, Audrey and Jason. Ron was an avid sports fan, an unbeliev able cook, gardener and a lover of life. He loved to entertain and found great joy in being with others. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Cumming where he served as a deacon, tire less volunteer and choir member. His daughter, Audrey; his parents; and his sister, Connie, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Tatum Storey of Griffin; son, Jason Storey (Amy), also of Griffin; sister, Pamela Storey Zink (Bill) of Newnan; grandson, John Storey of Griffin; sister- in-law, Sandra Tatum Bennett of Dawsonville; brothers-in-law, Charles Tatum (Judy) and Jack Tatum of Cumming, John Tatum of Tampa, Fla., John Thornton of Milner ; various other relatives also survive. Services were held at 3 p.m. March 3 at Concord Baptist Church in Cumming with Dr. Scott Gilbert offici ating. The family received friends at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment followed the service at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cumming. The family would like to extend its deepest thanks to Ron’s special cousin and caregiver Deborah Watts, Brightmoor Hospice and Sun City Peachtree neigh bors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ron’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of the arrange ments.
