Little ones get a chance to dress up for the community
The annual Miss Sparkle
Pageant took place at the
Dawson County Junior High
School auditorium March 8.
The Miss Sparkle Pageant
gives the exceptional girls in
the community a chance to
dress up and be in the spot
light as they are escorted by
Dawson County Junior High
School JROTC cadets. Each
girl received a sash and flow
ers before walking across the
stage to thunderous applause
from the audience as Director
of the Exceptional Children
program Hershel Bennett read
comments provided by the
staff from each girl's school.

DawsonviUe women honored at
leadership recognition luncheon

Lauren Dare Bell and
McKay Shively were
recently honored at the
University of North Georgia
third annual Women’s
Leadership Recognition
Luncheon on March 3.
The luncheon was host
ed by the Women of UNG
Shared Interest Group of
the UNG Alumni
Association as a way to
engage, empower and
enrich the lives of women.
Dawsonville natives
Bell and Shively were
among the 10 coed hon-
orees at the March 3 lun
cheon that reflected “The
Heart of Leadership.”
Bell is a nursing major
with a minor in military
leadership. Shiveley is a
management major.
Other honorees were:

Black, Wakeitha Cun
ningham, Gabrielle Davis,
Laura Rhodes, Melissa
Silva and Renee Vanhorn.

Amicalola EMC Awards
$138K in college scholarships
Amicalola EMC hosted
its annual youth awards
banquet on March 21.
CEO Todd Payne and
the board of directors
awarded college scholar
ships to 138 deserving stu
dents from Cherokee,
Dawson, Gilmer, Lumpkin
and Pickens counties.
In addition, four high
school juniors were named
as delegates to the 2019
Washington Youth Tour:
Seth Bouldin of Cherokee
High, Rianna Henderson of
Gilmer High, James Logan
Joiner of Pickens High and
Jenna Lecours of Dawson
County High School.
The youth tour is an all
expense paid trip to
Washington with over 100
other Georgia high school
students. All scholarships
are funded using unclaimed
property, in accordance
with O.C.G.A. 44-12-236.
