All-you-can-eat pancakes event to support veterans

For only $6 you can get all
the pancakes you can possibly
eat and support local veterans.
The all-you-can-eat pancake
breakfast hosted by the
Veterans Affairs of Dawson
County will be Saturday from
8 to 11 a.m. at the Professional
Development Center.
The menu includes plain or
home-grown blueberry pan
cakes, coffee, juice, water,
bacon, sausage, butter and
syrup and attendees can
choose to dine in or carry out.
Tickets can be purchased
at the door or in advance
from a board member.
The mission of the
Veterans Affairs of Dawson
County is to honor veterans
and active military by
remembering them through
service and celebration.
Donations as well as sales
from the breakfast will help
them provide programs for
the community, including
Memorial Day in May,
POW/MIA in September and
Veterans Day in November.
The Professional
Development Center is at 30
Main Street in Dawsonville.

Plant sale pickup Saturday for Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners

Plant pick up for the
Georgia Mountains Master
Gardeners and the Lumpkin
County 4-H is next Saturday.
More than 1700 plants that
were preordered through
mid-March will be available
for pickup from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. April 13 at the Lumpkin
County Road/Recycling
Department at 1656 Red
Oak Flats Road in
Dahlonega.
For those who missed the
preorder deadline, hundreds
of blooming flowers will be
available for purchase at the
pickup site.
All plants are profession
ally grown in specialized
nurseries in north Georgia.
Master Gardeners will be
in attendance at the pickup
site to help with any ques
tions you may have about
soil preparation and basic
care for the plants you have
ordered.
The sale is the primary
fundraiser of the year for
GMMG, and proceeds will
go to the 4-H program, to
establishing and maintaining
gardening projects through
out the Lumpkin and
Dawson County areas, help
ing to fund the Junior Master
Gardener’s program, provid
ing college scholarships and
hosting educational garden
ing presentations throughout
the year to the public.
The Master Gardeners also
hope you will join them for
an all day workshop this
summer to prepare everyone
for proper pruning, fall
clean-up, bulb maintenance
and planting, seed collection
and storing. The workshop
is free and open to the pub
lic. Please mark your calen
dars for Aug. 10, and watch
for details later in the year.

OBITUARIES
Spencer Allen Englett
Sheriff’s Deputy Mr. Spencer Allen
Englett, 29, of Gainesville, died April
4, 2019.
Spencer was a deputy sheriff with
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
He had been with Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office since May 1, 2017.
Spencer was also a deputy with both
Baldwin and Oconee counties.
Spencer is predeceased in death by
his grandmother Linda Lunsford.
Spencer is survived by his loving
wife Ashley Englett of Gainesville;
mother, Robin Sibley (Ronald) of
Eatonton; sister and brother-in-law
Lauren Boyer (Robert) of Sparta;
grandfather, Robert Lunsford of
Eatonton; and nephew, Ryder Boyer;
various other relatives also survive.
Visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m.
and from 6 to 9 p.m. April 8 at
McDonald and Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m.
April 9 at Winds of Peace Fellowship
Church in Dawsonville. Interment fol
lowed at Baldwin Memorial Gardens
in Milledgeville.
In lieu of flowers the family asks
donations be made in Spencer’s name

McDonald and Son Funeral Home of
Cumming was in charge of the

Brondell Greenway
Brondell Greenway, 81, of
Dahlonega, died April 3, 2019
Bom Feb. 4, 1938 in Fannin County
to the late Worth and Deanie
Greenway, she lived most of her life in
Lumpkin County.
Brondell retired from Mohawk
Industries, formerly Pine Tree, after 50
years of service.
She enjoyed fishing, visiting
Cherokee, N.C., and spending time
with her family.
She was also preceded in death by a
nephew, Wesley Greenway; and great-
nephew, Caleb Greenway.
Surviving are her brother, Glenn
Greenway of California; niece, Mary
Whitmire of Dahlonega; nephew, Michael
Greenway of Dawsonville; great-nieces
and nephews, Franchesca, Samantha,
Brie, Gabriel, Cade, Abby, Alyssa, Ronin,
Porter, Kara; and great-great-nieces and
nephews, Everly, Conner, Baylor and Ella;
various other relatives also survive.
Graveside services were held at 11
a.m. April 6 at the Mill Creek Baptist
Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 9
to 10:30 a.m. April 6 at the funeral
home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be
made to the Lumpkin County Animal
Shelter, 1363 Red Oak Flats Road,
Dahlonega, Ga. 30533.
Bearden Funeral Home of
Dawsonville was in charge of the
arrangements.

James Pinkston Flowers
Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant
Colonel James Pinkston Flowers, 76,
of Dawsonville, died April 6, 2019.
Jimmy, as known by his many friends,
grew up in Dawson, graduating from
Terrell High School in 1960. He went on
to North Georgia College, where he
graduated in 1964 and joined the Army.
He served 20 years, with tours in
Vietnam, Taiwan, and Germany before
ending his career at the Pentagon.
Following retirement, he joined
US A A, a national security company,
and quickly became Executive Vice
President of Administration,
Operations and Human Resources.
Jimmy was the son of Mrs. Wayland
(Leila) Flowers and the brother of
Wayland Flowers, Jr. (of “Wayland and
Madame” fame) (deceased). His sister,
Frankie Flowers Van Cleave, resides in
Marietta. He is also survived by his wife,
Suzanne Cameron Flowers, three children
(Stacie, Patrick, and Laura) and grandchil
dren; various other relatives also survive.
A funeral service will be held at
10:30 a.m. April 12 at St. Peters
Chapel in Roswell. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on
April 11 at Northside Chapel Funeral
Home. Interment will follow at 11 a.m.
April 15 in the Georgia Memorial
Cemetery in Canton.
