I. ZONINGS
ZA 19-02 - Jerry Fouts has made a request for
rezoning subject to County Commission approval.
He seeks to change the current zoning of RA
(Residential Agriculture) to CHB (Commercial
Highway Business) for the construction of a mini
storage facility with 48 units. The subject property is
located at TMP 081-007. (Tabled from the March 21,
2019, Voting Session)
ZA 19-04 - Landbridge Development LLC has
made a request for rezoning of property located at
TMP 113-085 from CHB (Commercial Highway
Business) to Residential Multi Family. The develop
ment would consist of 80 units, five two-story build
ings (16 units each) with community building.
VR 19-02 - Amber Popphan is requesting a vari
ance to the Land Use Resolution Section 309.A.1.
Manufactured housing and mobile homes are allowed
on tracts of land five acres or more and are condition
ally allowed with approval of the Planning
Commission and the Board of Commissioners on
tracts of land under five acres.

“I am thrilled to be working and living
in a community with as much character
and natural beauty as Dawson County,”
Demarest said. “I come from a small town
in South Carolina originally, so I immedi
ately fell in love with Dawsonville and
knew it was a place where I wanted to
plant my roots and start a family.”
Demarest, 28, moved to Dawsonville
in May 2018 with his wife Bethany and
three cats: Blizzard, Autumn and Archie.

OBITUARIES
Joseph Michael Bishop
Joe Bishop, 57 of Dawsonville, died April 8, 2019.
Born in Miami, he moved with his family to Rye
Beach, N.H. until attending Georgia Southern
University, where he was a member of Sigma Pi
Fraternity.
Upon graduation he moved to Dawsonville. Joe
worked as a physician recruiter and placement special
ist in the Atlanta area.
Survivors include his children, Joseph Michael
Bishop Jr, Brittnie Bishop Lyons (Paul) and Andrew
Robert Bishop; one granddaughter, Isla; Terri Collins
Bishop; sisters, Judith Bishop Vari (Armand), Cynthia
Bishop-Alex (Ted); Virginia Bishop Wright (Andrew),
Corinne Bishop Curry (Rich), Margaret Bishop Fokas
and Teresa Bishop Price; brother, Robert H Bishop III;
various other relatives also survive.
A private memorial service will be held.

Mary Elizabeth Galloway
Mary Elizabeth Galloway, 94, of Alpharetta, died
April 10, 2019.
She was born July 28, 1924, in Canton to Annie
Duncan Goss and Fred Goss. She spent her last years
living in Alpharetta, Georgia, at St. Ives Senior Living.
Elizabeth graduated from Canton High School. She
was married to her lifelong love, Holbert Galloway, for
62 years.
She and her husband were 25-year members of the
Athens Boat Club in Dawsonville. Their Dawson
County friends became their second family and they
loved their years spent there.
Cruising Lake Lanier at sunset, “Friday nights with
friends” and their beloved “River Rats” who explored the
rivers in the southeast were all happy parts of their lives.
Elizabeth was a retiree of 25 years from Western
Electric Company.
She was a member of the Dawsonville Women’s
Club, Dawsonville Garden Club, and the Red Hat
Club. She was routinely a poll volunteer for Dawson
County and worked for H & R Block during the tax
season. Her favorite time was spent as a member of
the Cornerstone Christian Church where she sang in
the church choir. In recent years, her life was enriched
by her friendship with her loving caregivers Natalie
Walker and Tanya Smith.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband,
Holbert Galloway; her son Larry Galloway, her sister,
Lee Mashburn; brothers, Duncan Goss and Jack Goss.
Survivors include her children, Sandy Goodwin
(Andy), Michael Galloway (Maggie), and Treena
Galloway, and by her 14 grandchildren, 31 great
grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; vari
ous other relatives also survive.
A graveside service was held April 12 at Cherokee
Memorial Park Cemetery in Canton.
Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in
charge of the arrangements.

Fairy Sue Gilbert
Fairy Sue Gilbert, 82, of Cumming, died April 11,2019.
Fairy Sue was a loving wife, mother and Nana.
She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
She was retired from Scottish Rite Hospital after 17 years
of service.
Fairy Sue spent her life giving to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and
Ruby Padgett; and son, Heath Gilbert; brothers, Ronnie
Padgett and Mack Padgett; grandchildren, Ryne Gilbert
and Haley Gilbert.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Gilbert of
Cumming; children, Tony (Kendra) Gilbert, Missy
Chewning, Mandy Gilbert, all of Cumming; sisters, Janice
Henderson of Dawsonville, Diane (Danny) Hansard of
Cumming; grandchildren, Jonathan Gilbert, Kassidy
Gilbert, Chelsea Dinsmore, Saxon Chewning; sister-in-law,
Brenda Padgett; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. April 15 at New
Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Sammy Wright
and Johnny Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in
New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family
received friends at Ingram Funeral Home from 2 to 7 p.m.
April 14 and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on April 15.
In lieu of flowers donations were requested to the
Leukemia Society at https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate.
Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory of Cumming was in
charge of arrangements.

Teresa "Terry" Waters McElroy
Teresa “Terry” Waters McElroy, 70, of Dawsonville,
died April 14, 2019.
Born June 16, 1948 and raised in Mableton, Terry
was a graduate of South Cobb High School where she
met her husband.
She worked for AT&T in Gainesville for 25 years
and almost never missed a day of work.
A devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and nana,
her family was her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and
Edith Waters; and brother, Frank Waters.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Mike
McElroy; children, Shelley Cox, Brandon McElroy; sis
ter, Marsha “Skeef ’ Waters Evans; grandchildren, Sydney
and Keith Holtzclaw, Riley Cox; nephews, Ronnie “Sug”
Hall, Brian Hall; great-nephew, Jacob Hall, all of
Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on April 18 at
Bearden Funeral Home chapel. The Pastor Ricky
Stepp will officiate. Interment will follow the funeral
at Niblewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m.
today at the funeral home and again from noon until
the hour of service April 18.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be
made to help offset final expenses.
Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville is in charge
of the arrangements.

Susan Marie See Randall
Susan Marie See Randall, 63, of Dawsonville, died
March 29, 2019.
Susan was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to
Dawson County in 1990.
Mrs. Randall was a loving mother, grandmother and
a talented artist. Susan enjoyed fishing, arts and crafts,
cooking, canning and bingo.
She helped build Country Club of the South and
enjoyed delivering newspapers for many years.
Mrs. Randall was proceeded in death by her mother,
Lenore Thomas; daughter, Jennifer; sister, Jean; and
brothers, Kenny and Robert.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter,
Mandi; sons, Nelson, Michael and Phillip; daughter-in
law, Telitha; brothers, Glen, Allister, Mark and David;
10 grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.
A memorial service for Susan will be held April 20
at her home in Dawsonville.
Susan loved butterflies and a butterfly garden will be
planted in her honor.
Attendees are encouraged to bring flowering plants
for her garden.
SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society of
Alpharetta was in charge of the arrangements.

Pete Shoemake
Pete Shoemake, 60, of Cumming, died, April 14,
2019.
Pete was predeceased by his mother and father,
Stanley and Betty Morris.
Pete was survived by his loving wife of 38 years Lisa
Shoemake of Cumming; children Jessica Day (Matt) of
Cumming, and Sonya Brumbelow (Michael) of
Dawsonville; brothers and sister, Robert Shoemake (Vicky)
of Dawsonville; Deborah Mullikin (Roy) of Bonaire; and
Russell Morris (Jeannie) of Addison, Ill.; one grandchild,
Jake Day; various other relatives also survive.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 2 pm. and from 4
to 9 p.m. April 16 at McDonald and Son Funeral Home
and Crematory.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at
McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory
Chapel.
Graveside will follow the service at Sawnee View
Gardens in Cumming.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be
made to the Forsyth County Humane Society.
McDonald and Son Funeral Home of Cumming is in
charge of the arrangements.

Joe Bishop, 57 of Dawsonville, Ga passed away on
April 8,2019. Born in Miami, moved with his family
to Rye Beach, New Hampshire until attendins
Georgia Southern University where he was a
